Snapper's Strength Sojourn

Hell ya on the PR! That is definitely worth the 45 min drive.

Also formidable benching. Great work Snapper.

FWIW I set the bar at munchkin height, but only because, well, i’m bordeline munchkin.

more than twice your body weight snap - freakin awesome. what more can I say?

Was planning to do some cardio at the gym today, but, well, the treadmills and such were so damn crowded that I put on the chucks instead and made things up as I went along.

A) Bicep Concentration Curl
3/8/20

B) Tricep Lying DB Extension
3/8/15 (so much pain in my right rotator cuff that these are hard to do even at a low weight)

C) Bentover Barbell Row
3/8/70

D) Decline Bench Situps
3/20

E) Diamond (Tricep) Pushups
3/10

F) Straight Arm Straight Bar Cable Pushdown
3/10/70

Must go see the ART guy about my rotator cuff. It’s a chronic problem. Amazingly, I can bench okay with only minimal pain, but my activities of daily living are really affected. Can’t use my right hand/arm to push a door open, reach for anything, etc. Any motion simulating looking at a watch is excrutiating. It seems to come and go with me, but is particularly bad right now. Anyone experienced this before?

oh SNAP!

Not my rotator cuff, but my left wrist flexor/extensor makes the looking at my wristwatch motion not comfortable. I hate having stuff go wrong with my body! I’m sure you do too. I’d be interested in your ART experience.

It’s a little more than two weeks until my meet. I’m practicing my attempts at this point and visualizing success for every lift. It would be great to go 9 for 9 this meet. I feel stronger and more prepared than I have for any meet in the past. But I’m still trying to stave off the nerves that accompany having to get up in front of a crowd to demonstrate athletic prowess. Arrgghhy. My coach brought in some nifty new knee wraps on Monday. Tight and sweet and pretty too.

So, I finally followed up on your log, now that I know who you are!

  1. I literally LOL’d when Jim asked if your coach knew how to do a shirt. He is my favorite shirter, and has taught me and my coach quite a bit about shirting. He shirted me at Nationals and the State meet last year, I got PRs both times.

  2. When I am squatting, the bar is about 3" below my collarbones when I walk up to it, if not a little lower. I carry it low, especially when equipped. It’s a matter of finding the place high enough that you can get under the bar when wrapped up, but not so high that you can’t be tight under the bar, while still not having to squat the weight to unrack it. I’m a rack height 6, and I’m 5’5".

  3. Of course your coach wants you to take more shirtless pics. LOL!

I’m sending in my application today, I’ll see you in a couple of weeks! I bet you get drug tested, muhahahah!

Drug tested? Me? Now that is just a major LMAO. I definitely look and lift like a steroid junkie!

Yes, I thank my lucky stars daily that I have such a great coach who has persevered with my benching. Otherwise, I’d probably still be benching the bar plus clips.

I’ve adjusted to the lower rack height for squat. Even with the wraps and such, it just took a few sessions. Honestly, I don’t know why I didn’t lower it sooner. I think I slammed into the rack at all three meets on my third squat attempt. I guess I’m a little daft.

More shirtless pics. Hmmm. Never got around to it!

More pictures!

Maybe I’ll video some DLs tomorrow for you, Kimba. But I will have a shirt on. Otherwise, I’ll probably be escorted out of the gym.

My new purple tapered belt arrived! I absolutely love it. I highly recommend a tapered belt for those of you who are small or short-waisted. I think it’s going to work like a charm!

I would LOVE that!

Do you think that tapered belt would be good for both squats and deads? I’d love to see a pic/video of you rockin’ that belt. It would almost be like a preview of what it might look like on me.

I think I have the same belt and it works awesome for squats! I’ll make some videos to prove it. I haven’t tried it for deads yet, but I did wear it for my bench max and I swear it added some support and stability there, I just had it super tight.

Way to go on the deadlift PR! That is some serious weight!!

I didn’t realize the meet was so soon - sounds like you’re getting amped! Super cool.

yes vids please. Shirted or otherwise.

DL today. Felt super strong. Here I am DLing 245 lb. with bands in my new purple tapered belt.

Looks like my hips are not as low as I’d hope when I initiate each pull. Vids are such a great training tool.

Worked up to 3/3/285 in DL.

Then:

Good Mornings
3/5/90

A) Chinups
3/8 full extension, no spot

B) Lat Pulldown
2/8/90
1/5/90 + 1/3/80

285 lb.

Where oh where is my video??

Made that trip look easy! Nice!

whoa.
out of curiosity, your front page says your dl max is 200. Did you make super-quick improvements or does the belt help?
either way, congrats. 285 is big, esp. for little people.

Snapper, I could only see the 245 video but that was AWESOME! It is so motivating for me to see you do that.

And the purple belt looks stylin’. The tapered is definitely the way to go for me too, I think.

Beautiful deads! I’m gonna have to try them with the bands, that helps you explode off the floor, right?
