Snapper's Strength Sojourn

hmm, sounds frustrating…I’d probably listen to the PT.

if it hurts and you feel you are pushing it then don’t go to that limit again.

Mom says take care of yourself, and go easy. I know it’s frustrating, but it will be even more frustrating if you aggravate things.

While a surgeon might know whether things are technically acceptable, you have to remember he probably thinks your idea of lifting is pink dumbbells (which probably ARE acceptable).

Wow. That is a pretty difficult situation to be in - one expert against another…I wish I could help.

I bet you are obsessing over this! I can’t blame you. The best decision for indecision is no decision. You’ll figure out what to do - the answer will come to you.

You already know what the right answer is here and you don’t need anybody to tell it to you. But I’ll tell you anyway. Listen to your PT.

If it were me, I’d listen to my surgeon not the PT. Yes, I am used to being alone in a crowd.

But, if anything hurts in the slightest back off that shit. And I’d stay with the bar and put the micro plates on it very slowly to start.

But that’s me.

And, congratulations! I remember when you were waffling about having the surgery and were seriously considering just having a limp arm for the rest of your life.

Always looking at the bright side, that girl our Kimba!

I think my surgeon is a very, very smart man. But he’s not a rehab specialist. And I do believe my PT is. My PT realizes, I believe, that I’m not really an “ease into things” type of person. Consequently, I’m seriously thinking about just laying low for the next month or so. Never thought I’d be saying that. Maybe I’m growing up?

I remember PMPM advising me at the meet to not lift after I had obviously hurt my shoulder, but I ignored her. Maybe that’s why she’s becoming an internationally famous lifter and I’m not. Well, there is the talent issue . . .

Okay. Signing off for now. Thanks for chiming in with advice, all.

You do know we’re all still interested in your rehab even if you can’t DL or squat just yet.

Thanks, obviously I am falling down on the job.

KP,do you have access to a safety squat bar?? Squats and GMs with a SSB would keep the shoulder safe and keep your PT happy. Win-win.

I’m really gonna have to see this one to believe it.

A cougar does not change its spots so easily.

P.S. I am not totally sure a cougar has any spots, but you know…

Seriously, this bitch ^^^ must be stalking my brain. [I use the term “bitch” in an affectionate sense, because of course I’m very fond of Kimba.] Aren’t you supposed to be leaving the country, dearie?

An SSB has been suggested by others here, Eco. My PT doesn’t want me pulling or holding any serious weight. So an SSB doesn’t really solve the problem. The funny thing is that my PT exercises are WAY more painful and difficult than the piddly shit squats and DLs I’ve done lately.

And I choose to believe that Joe is truly interested in following my rehab rather than my ass. That’s why his name is Joe “Good.”

Thats not why…

You won’t be getting rid of me until Friday night. And considering I just bought a brand-new netbook just for this trip, who knows after that?

Joe now we need to know why of course? you can’t just leave us hanging like that.

Kimba - you are not aloud to browse the net during your vacation!! the whole point of a vacation in Amsterdam is to disconnect. Seriously I don’t want to see your ass in here or I will hunt you down!

sorry Snap - end high jack. I personally just want to see your ass cause I aint good, and eventually in the near futur when your all spanking new and good to go, some awesome lifts. But until then your ass is plenty good enough for me

This must be incredibly frustrating for you. I would listen to the person that was telling me what I wanted to hear. I think most people would. However, I hope you opt to listen to the person who is telling you what you really should be doing.

Watching along with your rehab is like watching a slow motion battle fought in increments.

This gave me pause. Very eloquently said.

I plan to speak more with my PT tomorrow morning and get some clarification. There really wasn’t much dialog yesterday. He was angry. And I wasn’t willing to give anything up at that point.

So I’m thinking about programs. Considering a 5 x 5 for the main lifts or even maybe 5/3/1 since the gains are slow and focus on reps rather than loading up the poundage. I know I want something very structured and measurable. Thoughts?

Surgeon will see you once usually. The PT gets to see the people that mess themselves up repeatedly. I’d trust him/her.

'Course, my PT told me I’d never have 400 lbs on my back again, so I can’t even follow my own advice.

Snapper, it’s great to stop in here and see how much your rehab has progressed in such a short time. Of course, I’m not at all surprised, you’re obviously a fighter!

I’m glad to hear the “piddly” weights session went well and felt good, but like the others I’ve got so say, listen to your PT! As long as you stay on the right track with your rehab, you’ll have many years ahead of you to throw some iron around; don’t rush it.
