mmmmmmmm - chocolate…
I’m glad your surgeon got back to you and was able to reassure you. It’s imperative that one be able to trust their doctor. Your love of PL is going to pull you through this ordeal, and you’ll be competiting in no time.
I totally understand how you feel. I had inguinal hernia surgery a year ago last fall. I couldn’t lift for two months and couldn’t squat or DL for 6. But my only other option was to stop lifting altogether. My best advice is to take some time and focus on getting the surgery done. Then approach your rehab like its a training regimine. Soon enough you’ll be able to et back to the iron.
best of luck.
Thank you all for the kind words. They mean so much to me. Truly!

You’ve now set the benchmark for your comeback.
Masch is officially the wise (and hawt!) ‘momma’ of the PW boards.
Snapper, I totally understand how scary it is to go under the knife. Like Masch said, please feel free to use us as your sounding board. I’ve got a really good feeling about your situation though - you’ve obviously got a kick-ass and caring surgeon, and your work ethic and love of the sport will definitely help you push through your rehab so you wind up stronger and even more bad-ass than before!
How ironic is it that my last workout falls on the last page of my log notebook?

Damn woman, training up to the last second. That’s the fighting spirit! Fucking love it.
Good luck mama. Let us know how everything goes.
Just checking in on ya. I hope you get some good drugs.

When the surgeon went in to retrieve the errant tendon/muscle in my shoulder, he found that not only was it essentially torn off the bone, but the “flap” itself was torn both horizontally and vertically. It was a lot of work to fix it. A lot of internal stitches and anchors to the bone and ties. Plus four holes in rather than three.
The surgeon called me the morning after the surgery to tell me that I must listen to him and take my time with the healing process. I have a month wait until I can even start physical therapy. No use of the arm until then. Considering all the trauma, I am doing amazingly well. I only needed pain meds for 48 hours and was back in the gym on a spin bike four days after the surgery. My spirits are great. I see the surgeon tomorrow for my first post-op.
I’ve so enjoyed following all your logs. Can’t wait to start my own again.
fucking-A Snap. I can’t beleive you were lifting with all that damage. Now listen to your seemingly very smart surgeon and you’ll be lifting in no time. Glad to know you are doing well with the whole procedure.
