Well I tried to sneak in behind her but instead I’m now looking a dog’s behind…I am disappoint.
Today’s training:
Conventional DL
5/70
4/95
3/130
2/145
5/170
Really focused on not bringing my hips up first. And for the most part I succeeded. [The camera does not lie.] I need to start the pull with my hips lower, I believe, but all in good time. This is my last week doing five reps for the top set until after my next meet in March. From now on, it’s threes and twos. Hooray.
Wide-Stance Squats
5/45
3/5/100
These really work muscles that I don’t normally work. And, hence, why I think I’m such a weak sumo puller. I can barely hit parallel with these. [Again, the camera does not lie.]
Finished it up with seated lat pulldown, weighted hypers, DB shrugs, and planks.
Merry Christmas to you all. Thanks for the great support this past year.
The camera does not lie - but where are the videos?
Merry Xmas snapper!

I am just hitting my prime. I post here because there is a little less dick measuring. The PL forum is full of fifteen year olds braggin about squatting 315 because they did it without a belt. There is some good stuff elsewhere on the site but I don’t need the dick measuring… (to put it crudely).
It’s a good thing too because some of us would come up short.
I’d like to know who thinks the over 35 forum is insulting; unless they are insulted by it being exclusionary. It’s a private club you know.
As guy who is only 5’5" … (funny, when I got married I was 5’6" and my wife was 5’7". Now I’m 5’5" and she is 5’8.5") ok, your post made me smile.
Glad ksnap got some photographs done that make her happy.
My new avatar for the forums is from a photographer we found who did our family photos for us.
I still feel we underpaid for them (though when she was asking around for some luggage for herself and her husband, we gave them five pieces).
Best wishes. Remember, no matter what you do, keep the hat on.
Merry Christmas.
Snapper, I hope you and your family are having a lovely day!
P.S. re: wide-stance squats: DAMN these are hard for me. And I work those muscles all the time in sumo pulling.
Kimba: It was a good day. We went ice skating on a “lake” in the mountains. It was my first time out this season.
Elaikases: My husband was my photographer. I’ll try to accommodate with the hat.
Soldog: The videos are uninspiring. But here you go.
Merry christmas snapper! Is Bear Lake actually solid enough to skate on?
I’m liking the way the wide stance squats are working for you! Put some weight on the bar the bar next itme and lets see how they look.
Nice looking deads and squats. You really went wide with the squats. How does it feel for you? I had gone that wide before and was starting to have a tough time hitting depth.
btw, my eyes were mostly on the guy on the ladder. Could someone not have held it for him? He looked like an accident waiting to happen.
I hope you had a nice holiday.

I’m not sure exactly how wide I should be with wide-stance squats. So I’m just going really wide (compared to my shoulder width). These feel extremely difficult. But I think that’s because I’m working muscles (inner thigh and such) that I don’t hit often enough. These are accessory work. No way would I change my competition stance to anything near this. And I’m barely hitting depth as well.
I thought sumo pullers (you and Kimba) would find these easy since in my mind this feels like the converse of a sumo pull. But Kimba says she struggles with these as well. Hmm.

Evergreen Lake! If you haven’t been there before, you oughtta try it. Excellent leg work. Although I find that ice skating hits me in the shins and back.

Good squatting. I fixed the quote for accuracy. ![]()
How do your hips feel? Squatting that wide tears my hips up.
Belted, wide stance squats to barely below parallel? Who is this imposter and what have you done with Snapper?
A tiny, little piece of me died inside when I saw that video! Ahhhhhh
…only kidding!

I don’t find the squat hard, just hitting depth. It for sure works different muscles. Almost as soon as I started going a bit wider and pulling sumo, my inner thighs got bigger, rounder and more pronounced.

Just for the record, the belt wasn’t even latched. I just thought having it on would cue me to keep my back nice and tight. I still don’t wear one when I’m doing serious squat training with my narrow stance and more depth. I like the wide-stance squats as accessory work purely because they feel so different. And it’s good to mix things up now and then.
So I’ve been analyzing why the deadlift is the most psychological lift for me. Why my setup can take seemingly forever. And I think it’s because both squat and bench begin with an eccentric motion that loads you up and prepares you for the explosive part of the lift, whereas you have to be explosive from the minute you break the weight off the floor in a DL. I think that’s why my sticking point is the floor. It’s a psychological sticking point.

After viewing your XX-mas pics I’m finding it hard being objective on your squatting form. Then you go posting pics of your squats from the rear. …I keep having XX-mas picture flash backs.
ITS ALL YOUR FAULT!!!

I must admit, this was a concern I had. But I’m reminded of Walt Whitman, whom my husband often quotes: “I am large. I contain multitudes.”
I videod the squats from the rear to show the width of my stance. Hard to see that from the side. That was the only reason.
I’m off to ice skate again!
