Today’s training:

DL Platform Practice
5/115
3/135
3/155
2/175
1/188
1/198
1/205

Then
2/5/135

All the singles went up pretty fast.

Joe: Yep, I have my openers picked and then some. I pretty much know what every attempt will be except for my final DL. My goal is to go 9 for 9 since I consider this a practice meet, a progress meet.[/quote]

Sounds good, I have no idea how to figure out openers yet.

Different people have different ideas about picking openers. Most people say pick a number you can easily triple in the gym. I always open super light with all my lifts.

So here’s what I’m thinking my attempts will be for the meet next Saturday.

Six months post surgery

Weigh-in: 50 kg or thereabouts
Age: 45

Squat
57.5 kg opener
65 kg second attempt
67.5 or 70 kg third attempt

Bench [nothing to see here]
25 kg opener
30 kg second attempt
35 kg third attempt

DL
85 kg opener
90 kg or 92.5 kg
95 kg or 97.5 kg or 100 kg third attempt

I like your attempts esp. the deads

I’ll weigh-in pretty much at your final (higher) dead attempt - twice what you weigh!

Since I’m late to the party hope you have a good meet, lift heavy. Are you an emotional lifter in competition or dispassionate on the platform?

Looks good Snap. I like this “practice meet/progress meet”. Makes perfect sense!

She’ll be emotional when I punch myself in the forehead, and don’t let her get in on the action!

Dispassionate.

Just today my coach was saying “get mad.”

It wasn’t my best day. Missed what I had planned for my second attempt in squat. Waited 45 seconds and then tried it again. Got it in an ugly way. I really felt out of my groove with squat today. Wasn’t arching my back or something. Wish I had more talent. Six days.

Dispassionate is the best way to be I’m sure. Getting too emotional can work two ways. Miss a lift and you get all upset and dispondent or ace a lift and then get carried away with weight jumps.

Don’t worry I’m sure you will do great in the meet. How you do will be more down to all the hard work over the last six months not what you do this last week.

Chin up!

This, unless you are one of those people who can maintain technique while ragin’. I think it can be learned.

I’m getting there, Harry.

So can I start with my cheer yet?

So, I don’t know how long you have been competing, or how your mindset works for such things, but after several decades of the stuff, here’s what it comes down to for me. I keep things low key, as in “its just another workout.” That keeps me from freaking out and getting too wound up. The extra adrenalin is still there, but the stress is not. Anyway, good luck at the meet.

Bulldog: The cheering can start for the old, small lady!

Carl: This will be my fifth meet. I get wound up about every damn workout. It’s just my temperament. And even though I tell myself that this is a “progress meet,” I’m never that mellow about lifting in front of people.

Tomorrow I will practice benching the bar again. Hee hee.

Who are you calling old? Seems as though for about a week we are the same age.

Snap, didn’t know you came over here! I will have to remember and read your log.

I hope you have a good meet!

Don’t believe that “old” crap - kimba - you are both young ladies!

5 days!

Four days.

Woke up this morning feeling really excited about the meet. I was pretty stressed yesterday after missing my second attempt squat. But I’ve had a little change of heart about that and am just really excited to participate and see some of my lifting friends. I always worry about looking like an idiot on the platform, especially being small. But the reality is that everyone is worrying about their own numbers at a meet. And those people in the audience are sitting on their asses anyway. So there.

My coach and I talked about my next training cycle yesterday, which will lead up to a meet in March. Essentially, he wants my geared squat up to 214 lb. (almost 2x BW). I’d like my geared DL at . . . oh, say 253 lb. (2.3x BW). So I will have some serious work in the next three months to get to those goals. Putting the cart before the horse a bit, I am, since I gotta get through this weekend.

Going to practice my bench attempts today and then be done with it for the week.

I will be cheering you from Afghanistan, I just dont think you’ll be able to hear it.

I am glad you are getting excited. I’m getting stoked as well. It goes without saying, but make sure get plenty of vids!

Give’em hell snapper.
