Snap Back

I feel for you - we had 2 guinea pigs die suddenly with tumors. Also had a German Shepard die of lung torsion fairly young, ended up with the black lab mix in my avatar just after. I’d say hold a burial ceremony and mark the grave site should the worst come to pass.

Humbling upper body training today.

2 minutes hand bike
Stretch

Lying “L” DB External Rotation
3/10/3

Flat Bench DB Press
3/10/5

It was my first time pressing with a full range of motion since my surgery. Just 5-lb. DBs and even that felt scary. In my day, I could press the 35s, which was pretty good for my size.

A) Kroc Row
3/10/8

B) Bicep Concentration Curl
3/10/12.5

C) Tricep Kickback
3/10/10

A) Straight Arm DB Raise at 45 degree angle to Shoulder Height (isolating the reattached muscle)
3/10/2

B) Straight Arm DB Lateral Raise
3/10/2

C) Lying Shoulder Punches
3/10/10

D) Shrugs
3/10/30

Close-Grip Seated Row
3/10/40

Good work Snap, your on the right path back.

I totally understand about the Penny Gigs, I get really attached to my animals.

The road to recovery is slow and sometimes scary. You’ve got a good mix of lifts going. I’m a big animal lover, 4 real dogs and 1 spawn of hell daschund. They help keep ghost away. Hope all comes out well.

Interesting that you mention “scary” in terms of the road to recovery, hel320. I believe my next battle will be the mental one I have to face when I get the clearance to try benching again. I’m terrified already and must conquer that and trust my body again.

Took a 3-mile hike today through mountainous terrain. It was really peaceful and beautiful until two German shepherds started chasing me. Apparently they have quite the reputation for “running” people or their horses. Next time I’m taking my pepper spray.

Its one day at a time when it comes to recovery.

RIP: Coho/Cookie (the guinea pig died)

Today’s Training:

Squat
10/45

You can’t shake me that easy. I’ve got detective skillz and have found you.

Actually, I try to scare myself a little every day. Keeps the blood flowing and the head on straight.

P.S. Its so awesome to see you squatting 75 lbs. already. I knew you had your own definition of taking it slow.

Heeeeey!

Nice to see you logging Snapper. I’m still amazed at how fast your rehabbing - that’s already a lot of weight on the squats.

Sorry to hear about coho/cookie sad face

I’ll be following you along! (…while I stalk the rest of you geezers points to eyes, then points to kmcnyc’s eyes)

Physical therapy today. Two more “formal” sessions to go.

Saw a guy rehabbing his shoulder with slightly bigger weights. So I changed mine out to keep pace. Got a talking to by my PT that this wasn’t a “competition.” Plus, I’m half that other guy’s size. Ahh, well.

75 lb. is a lot of weight on the squats? C’mon Kimba and Maschy. Let’s get real here. Just can’t wait till I’m squatting my bodyweight again. That will be cause for celebration.

My condolences on the pet. Paraphrasing a quote I once read “you’ll know when you get to heaven cause all the pets you’ve ever loved will come running up to greet you”.
Geezers? Who she talkin to?

sorry about the guinea pig snapper, hope your kiddos are taking it ok.

and yes, 75 lb squat is reason for celebration considering what you are going through. quit being so tough on your self…well you can continue if that’s what keeps pushing you to get through this rehab faster.

i’ll be following your progress over here and i won’t get butt hurt when you make fun of numbers that are in my range… insert winky face since you don’t like emoticons

75lbs IS a lot of weight for someone who is coming off shoulder Sx. I know all to well how easy it is to get down on your self about how things are not progressing as fast as you want them but you ARE doing very well and believe me I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t think it was true.

You’re in far better shape and are far stronger than 99% of women and thats AFTER Sx. Don’t let the 1% get you down when we all know you’ll be back to what you were lifting before long before most people would be.

The world is full of people who would give a lot to both look and be in as good a shape as you are don’t discount that.

And when you get to squatting bodyweight then you’ll say THAT’S pussy weight. Can’t fool this wily biotch.

Sorry for the loss of the pet.
Yes, as everyone has stated, 75# squat at this point in recovery is great!

did you get in some hiit when the sheperds came after ya?

Hey K!

Nice new home you get here. insert smiley face

It looks to me like you have increased your squat by 75 lbs. in only a few weeks. That is great work, even if you don’t think so.

you are moving quickly through you rehab- good job.

nice work

sorry to hear about cookie.

macsh this geezer is all tingly.

Glad this week is coming to a close. It’s not been among my best. But sometimes these down times serve to make the sweet times seem even sweeter.

The good news is that my physical therapy is over. Done. I have one more meeting with my surgeon before I’ll be done with this “detour” from normality.

Today’s training:

RDL
10/45

Conventional Deadlift
10/75
5/5/105 (almost bodyweight!)

Squat
10/45

Box Squat (full pause in the hole)
3/8/75

A) Lat Pulldown
3/10/40

B) Weighted Hypers
3/10/25

A) Leg Extension
3/9/90

B) Pushups at 60 degrees (scary)
3/10

Read an article that studied the effectiveness of static vs. dynamic stretching prior to powerlifting training. Static stretching definitely hampers strength. Since I’ve been a member of the pre-lifting static stretching school, it’s time to make some changes here.

I’m lax on the stretching stuff my self, but I’ve read that lifters are better off doing it after lifting or on off days.

You are going to keep up with the PT exercises on your own, yes?
