WG pullups are damn hard for the majority of the pop… good job on getting one. Probably one more than I could do ![]()

awesome work on the pullup. I can’t even dream of that, and my shoulders are moderately healthy. How did your shoulder feel post-pullup?[/quote]
I could definitely tell it was a pullup vs. chin. It was tough on my shoulder. Chins don’t hurt. But one pullup was more than enough load for that shoulder. Something about the pronated grip I guess.

Well, wish you well on sticking with chins for awhile.
Smolov Jr. Week 1, Day 3
Maybe it was because I trained at a different time. I’m not sure. But my gosh, these squats just felt so hard today. I got to the gym about 5:30 pm and found it packed. Absolutely packed. But I got the cage. I felt really off, though. Sometimes squatted too deep. Sometimes felt like I was squat-morning the bar up. But I got all the reps. That’s the good news. I’m a little concerned that these felt so heavy since this is just the end of the first week of the program.
Squat
8/45
5/85
3/105
10/3/120
I took a video from the front, which I’ve never done before during training. I had to turn around and face into the gym, which threw me off a bit. Once I find my converter, I’ll post it.
Hamstring Curl
3/8/80
Then went home.
The time of day that I train makes a difference for me too. And frankly, some days are better than others for no good damn reason.
Even though the weights felt heavy, you got them all in and I count that as a win.
I’m always weaker in the morning than in the afternoon. You got the reps in so take your victiry and keep going.
120 x 3. How come the vid makes this look so easy when it didn’t feel that way?

nice!
The ten-heavy-triples days are brutal. Nice work.
good work in here. you are fortunate that your gym’s rack allows you to turn the j-hooks to the side away from the mirror. Can’t at my commercial gym. Makes everyone look at themselves when they squat. Which really sucks when you are bald, 280lbs, and your face turns a funny shade of purple every time you put a bar across your back…
Yeah, I’m really fond of that cage. I’m not bald. Or 280 lb. But I don’t look in the mirror anyway.
Woke up this morning and realized why I felt lousy last night. Female issues. You’d think I’d be smart enough to figure such things out by now.
You know, Jumpin’ Jack, I actually prefer the 10 x 3 over the higher rep days of Smolov Jr. Give me low reps anyday.
What set number was your vid? Which set is usually your best?
I find the first 2 I’m just “getting in the groove”, 5 and onwards I’m getting fatigued. So I’d say 3rd and 4th normally my best. I also think you can learn alot from comparing the first and last sets on video to see where your form breaks down and help spot your weak links etc.
Great lifting btw.
That was set 8. I was definitely tired and struggling and not feeling my best and sensitive to the fact that the juiced-up curlers and shruggers were champing at the bit for the cage. Sets 3 and 4 would probably have been better to video.
Make the curlers and shruggers wait.
I thought every day was tough, but the 7 sets of 5 was the hardest. But the threes day with no days rest after the fives day was also a killer.
Your squats look strong. 10 triples–wow.
Thats a lot of sets of heavy triples. Good work.
Be warned Kp!! IPF is talking weight class changes!!! USAPL to follow???

Ironically, I am unaffected. I compete as a 52 kg-er and usually weigh in right around 50 kg for meets. That weight class is the only one for females that doesn’t change.
I am, however, concerned about the potential change in bench rules that would eliminate a hand off. If that passes/passed, I would be done benching in a shirt.
I covet your non-caving knees.
