Better form, rapidly increasing poundages, compliments from strangers…shit is coming together. Great work.
PARTY! did some say PARTY?
well done today snapper!
That’s some nice squatting. Be careful you don’t push it too far too fast. I’m a pro at that.
Attended the USAPL Deadlift Nationals today. It was also a push-pull meet. Only four women competed, but there were lots of fine lifting men. Watching it was bittersweet. Made me really want to compete. So I had the crazy idea of doing a meet in six weeks. Just to “get back on the horse,” so to speak.
Left the meet and went to the gym for some upper body rehab.
I have the same thing going to a meet. I’ll be helping BB and Ruggerlife at a meet in a couple of weeks and fully expect to wish I were lifting. The nice thing is that you can socialise and shoot the shit without the stress of lifting and just get the energy lift of being there.
Do a meet, just token everything but the dl, hit a PR there. Just saying.
I don’t think my numbers will be anywhere near PRing in six weeks. So maybe a meet would be silly in that case.
Smolov Week 2, Day 3
8/45
5/75
5/95
8/4/110 (roughly bodyweight)
Again, easy.
1 x 140 is proof of a really great comeback, one for which you’ve worked so hard.
But I really think you are soft in the head if you do a meet so soon. The word “moderation” is so difficult for you to translate into reality.
You are the first person I have ever heard describe Smolov as “easy.” Your recovery must really be coming along.
I have no idea who Smolov is, but I’ll say your squatting numbers are very nice indeed.
Nice lifting Snap, things seem to be coming along nicely for you.

Yes, it’s coming along. But I obviously set my squat max way too low. I’m staying the course, though, because my confidence in the cage has really increased. I’m tempted to do another three-week cycle after I finish this one. We’ll see.
Kimba, you party pooper.
Briefly spoke with my coach about the idea of doing a meet in December. He didn’t say too much to the contrary, but I don’t think he’d be in favor of it. I guess I’m just a little antsy.

I do think that one of the biggest benefits of Smolov’s frequency is the confidence that it gives you. Even if you set it a little light, its obviously helping with your confidence and recovery. If you still feel fairly fresh afterwords, I don’t see any harm in running it again with heavier weights.
too antsy. trust your coach and your doc and all of us cripples. do what we say, not what we did.
confidence is huge. Keep at it and don’t rush it. It will all fall into place.

Better to set it too low, than too high. If you’d set it too high you could die!!
And I’m not joking!
This comes from someone who “just” managed to complete only the base mesocycle.
Ms. Snap, you so crazy.

Wow, Smolov easy? all I have heard about it is how damn intense and draining it can be. When I start really PLing again I want to try a Smolov Cycle. Since I have just started posting here in the over 35 forum let me ask, Have you ever run a 5/3/1 wave?
I agree with everyone else in that confidence is huge. So much of what we do is driven by what’s in our heads. Don’t get too antsy and jump to fast. Just keep riding this wave. It sounds like it’s working well for you.

I’ve done the first phase of Smolov before and really struggled with it. I can only say that the program seems very manageable this time because I set my max too low. But I’m still surprised that my hip flexors aren’t aching from all the squatting.
I’ve never done 5/3/1. It probably would be a good program for me. But I wonder if focusing on rep PRs would force me to throw my form and keep going to failure 'cause I’m kind of like that unfortunately. I also have concerns that 5/3/1 wouldn’t train my CNS to handle the heavy singles that are demanded when competing. Also, I compete geared, and I’m not sure how that would play into 5/3/1.
