If you had to break something on your birthday, better your car than your damned shoulder again. I’ve done some stupid stuff to cars in my past (everyone who has hit a house, raise your hand!), but since I can’t even drive a manual I’ve never done that particular thing.
Good on you for benching despite the fear. How wonderful that it didn’t hurt ya.
Doing things that don’t scare you is easy. Being afraid and still doing something is shows a persons character. Great going on the bench. BTW, reconsider any career that involves parking.

I’m going to let that comment go. I’ve driven many standard transmission cars in my life and found that leaving the car in gear usually suffices. I wasn’t even on a big hill.
Much of my weekend was spent at my daughter’s gymnastics meet and my son’s hockey practices. My daughter scored a 9.1 on bars. Very good and the highest on her team. Just got my son’s schedule regarding hockey games and realize that my life, as I know it, is over. Luckily I enjoy hockey and am on the injured-reserve in terms of my own competitive life.
Squats today. I’ll finally be doing reps at my bodyweight. I’m expecting these to be grinders. Wish I were stronger here.
My parking brake broke the other day, so I’ve been parking in gear constantly. I hate it!
As for why I drive a standard, it was cheaper and I wanted a cheap car (looks like I got that…), they are just a lot more fun, and I like being able to manipulate the gears to be zippier if I need to be in traffic.
Sounds like you and the family had a fun weekend full of sports. Congratulations to your daughter. We had 8 hockey games again this weekend. But only 4 this coming weekend. Piece of cake.
My wife taught me to drive a standard about 15 years ago, it is very hard to eat a cheeseburger and some fries whilst shifting, I think she wanted me smaller, I bought an automatic instead. You can’t stop my hunger you can only try to contain it. Congratulations on the shoulder being pain free that has to be a relief.
First of all, you are looking very hawt. High-top chucks FTW!
You are squatting down WAY TOO LOW to grab the bar. See how your hips rise up in order to initiate the pull? That’s where your hips and butt should be to start. I know this, because I fight this battle myself. When you first grab the bar, only squat down just enough to allow you to grip the bar, but not a mm more.
Also, do you think you could be pulling the bar back more? I can’t tell from that angle.
I guess its no surprise that your foot and hand placements are exactly like mine.
I would go a lot wider if you can. The nice thing about sumo is the reduction in the range of motion and it will bring you closer to the bar. You are doing the same thing I used to do and still do when I pull raw; treating it like a wide legged conventional and using a lot of back rather than hips and glutes. When you first start to pull, it looks like your knees are past your toes.
Congratulations to your daughter. It sounds like she’s found something that she really likes to do.
Thanks for the feedback on the video! It’s so helpful. If you think I look “hawt” in that video, I would say you need to get out more.
Since I am only pulling the 35s in that vid, I won’t have to drop as far to pull once I put the bigger plates on. I can get my feet all the way to the plates but seem to have no strength. My hips are hyper flexible and there’s no tension in the hole. I am going to post a pic to show what I mean.
