Smartest Things You've Done

Just an opposite thread to the “Stupidest Things You’ve Done” thread. Hopefully we can learn not from each other’s mistakes but also from our successes.

Here’s a couple:

  • Avoided partaking in some pretty serious crimes when I was 16-18, several of my friends ended up in prison and some still are in prison.

  • Identified everyone in my life who didn’t help me make money, develop me connections, improve my health mentally/physically and generally didn’t make me feel better. I classed these people as trash and phased them out of my life, this is an on going process though.

  • Stepping away and realising that life is just a game, treat it as such and somehow shit becomes easier. Meditation helps a lot with this aspect.

be smart

Laid the Smack a Down on some roody poo candy asses.

pulled out

Not shitting where i’m eating.

Switched to Geico

All of the decisions I made that led up to marrying my wife. Some of those decisions were made in middle school and high school. It’s almost like I’ve been planning all of this for over a decade LOL.

Being a father to the son that resulted from my first “stupidest thing I’ve ever done”. He’ll be 11 in September.

Also, not marrying his mother.

Asking my wife out.

Sticking with the most common answer, I am going to go with asking out my fiance. It took like 3 years and apparently I missed a lot of signals but now I couldn’t be happier.

Also, becoming a physicist. I couldn’t imagine ever wanting to do anything else for a living.

Maybe it’s just me, but I think “avoiding prison” is a pretty fucking smart thing to do.

For some odd reason, I’m at a loss for words.

Yes the bracelets are never pleasant. A 6x8 cell would be exponentially worse.

Don’t take life TOO serious?

Not quite the same. Take your career and your relationships with those important fucking seriously, but understand that when shit hits the fan, do what’s necessary but try not to feel like complete shit while fixing those problems. If you sit around being all depressed and anxious about your problems it’s gonna prevent you from doing what’s needed to fix the said problems.

As contradictory as it sounds, I believe being able to slightly pull yourself away from reality but remaining focused on your objectives stops you from getting overly emotionally involved. This stops smaller stuff in life from accumulating and stressing you out all the time and stops the bigger things from completely consuming you and preventing you from functioning.

Dude, I’m an engineering student. How many engineers can complete their degree in a cell block? In fact, who completes anything in prison?

Smartest thing - started being truthful and outspoken about what I wanted in life. I wanted more money so I asked for a raise. (got a promotion too)
Told my girlfriend I wanted more sex and for us to cook more at home. (best thing ever)

Told the bastards at chipotle I want more chicken on my brown rice bowl when they try to skimp. Fucking assholes.
