Deadlifted 495x6 with no belt last night, that’s a beltless PR that ties my belted PR. I planned on using a belt, but I’d eaten way too much yesterday, tried the belt and actually almost threw up. One the one hand it’s a cool PR, on the other hand I guess I’m still not getting anything out of wearing a belt for deadlifts, hmm.

Also I used Christmas money to buy knee sleeves, we’ll see how those feel soon!

Morning weight: 167, today squatted 365x5 (PR), 405x1, 425x1 (PR!!!). That’s over 2.5x BW, another big milestone.

Actually a long time ago (probably 5 years) I set a long term, lifetime goal to one day bench double bodyweight, squat 2.5X, and deadlift triple. Feels really good to have accomplished that. Now I need to move the goalposts a little further!

Squatted 385x3 - PR

Default paused bench PR today. I’ve never really done bench powerlifting-style, with a pause, feet flat and keeping butt on bench. Been working on that lately, think I finally found a foot placement that works fairly well. Whole bench workout today went 45x20, 135x10, 185x5, 225x5, 275x2, 295x1, 315x3 (not paused), then, four paused singles with 295 and four paused singles with 300. Each set felt better than the last, no grinded reps, definitely have more in me but I’m just gonna go up 5 pounds at a time.

I also would normally do a lot less sets but today is a snow day so I have the day off, figured I could spend an extra half hour benching. Then I came home and shoveled for a little over an hour.

Paused benched a couple singles at 305, getting harder but still easy enough that I don’t feel I need to have a spotter around… gonna take it slow but it would be really nice to pause double bodyweight, I think that’s my next goal.

Today I had a decent spotter available so I went for it a bit more with the paused benching… bench today was (all paused unless I say otherwise): 45x20, 135x10, 185x5, 225x3, 275x2 (not paused), 295x1 (not paused), 315x2 (not paused)… now a bunch of paused singles - 275x1, 295x1, 300x1, enlist help of spotter, 310x1 (paused PR), 315x1 (Paused PR… was pretty tough, but I did a whole bunch of sets before and this is my third time benching this week), 295x1, 1.
Bodyweight 166 this morning.

Been deadlifting with chalk instead of straps lately, because I’ll obviously need to do that for the competition. Grip isn’t an issue using chalk but it just changes the setup a bit so it was taking a bit to get used to… 7 days ago without straps I pulled a very, very tough 535, 3 days ago a fairly easy 535, and today, fairly easy 545, easy enough that I did it for a second single. PR with straps is 555 which I’m confident I could do without straps now… and I’m thinking lifting without them might help me push past that, as my setup is a little better.

So after ten days of no gym, eating everything, gaining 15 pounds, then five days of being back to the gym, eating strict, losing 13 pounds, I’ve had actually a couple awesome workouts. Today hit a paused bench PR of 325 weighing 167, after a bunch of other sets… double bodyweight with a pause would be sweet.

Whole bench workout looked like (all paused now) - 45x15, 135x10, 185x5, 225x3, 275x1, 295x1, 305x1, 310x1, 1, enlist spotter (but he never got near the bar), 315x1 (previoius paused PR but was much smoother this time), 320x1, 325x1, then five singles with 295 with 60 seconds rest. Then a bunch of other lighter stuff.

I don’t usually do quite that much but I felt real good today.

Couple new PR’s - paused benched 335 (10 pound PR), and squatted 445 (20 pound PR outta nowhere!)

455 squat! Pretty big milestone, felt good
