We spent the morning at my son’s preschool. I am always amazed at the difference between 4-5 year old little boys and little girls. I really don’t understand how little boys manage to survive to adulthood…

Have a good weekend everyone.[/quote]

Have a daughter. I dont think I’m going to survive the 5th grade!!!

bench a house tomorrow Mday!

My daughter is in third grade this year. My time will come with her. Although, I figure her issues will be with her Mother and not with me. Wishful thinking…

Yep…That is WISHFUL thinking… It’s been downhill for us since the start of 4rd grade…

Went in this morning for a very light stretching routine. I did some reverse hyper work, some back extensions, bar-only good mornings, body weight squats, and bar only bench work. I also did some shoulder mobility exercises.

Leaving early tomorrow for the bench only meet. I will give everyone a blow-by-blow update on Monday.

Best of luck in your meet. Looking forward to a full report.

Well, I learned two very important things this weekend. First, I need to do more work on my triceps, and second, I really don’t look good in a singlet.

The bench only meet went well. I learned a great deal that will help me with my training and my next competition.

I weighed in at 238lb. This is the heaviest I have been while at a decent bodyfat % (probably 15-16%). The meet had 19 lifters, but I was the only one competiting in the 242 RAW division. So, all I had to do was complete a lift and I got first place.

I decided to open at 245 since this was a weight I had done in the gym for 3 reps. It might have been a little high, but I felt confident I could get it. On my first attempt, I had a guy from the meet help me with the lift-off. BIG MISTAKE… I got the lift but it was probably harder than it needed to be.

My next lift was going to be at 255. On my second attempt, I got a friend to do the lift-off and things went much better. I lowered the weight well and waited for the press command. When I started the press, I could feel my triceps just not strong enough to push the weight. I missed the second and third attempt for the same reason, weak triceps.

In the gym, because I don’t work with the pause at the bottom, I can power the weight through my weak point. With a pause, my arms just have to be stronger and ready to power the weight through to lock-out. My longer arms make it even harder to move the weight through my sticking point.

Overall, I was happy with the meet. I got my first lift in despite a poor lift-off and I learned what I need to work on, stronger triceps.

It was really good to get used to the commands. I saw a number of lifters miss lifts because they didn’t wait for the rack command. I also realized the importance of training everyday with a strong mental focus. Training really needs to be consistent every rep so that when you compete your instincts kick in.

I have four weeks to get ready for the November meet. My goal will be to get more confidence with my squat opener, get stronger through the mid point of the bench, and continue to improve on my DL technique. Oh, I almost forgot, get a new singlet…

Great job Mday. You sure put a lot of thought in your results and techniques. I’m sure you will blast away in November.

great job Mday. I was one of those guys that blew the rack command. No one looks good in a singlet.

Nice job mday. Good analysis.

And I DO look good in a singlet. I was just joshing all y’all about that so no one would get jealous.

Outstanding MDay. You learned some things, got a lift in and will know how to prepare for the big one in November.
PS, don’t listen to skid. Would you trust someone from California who uses the word joshing?

Yeah, and ain’t from the right corner of the country to be using the term “y’all”.

Sounds like a very productive meet. I have a term “stable technique” to describe something I can do without thinking and under any kind of pressure. It’s my aim going into any meet to have a stable technique.

And kittens was a good move. Cats have a psychic ability to induce sleep. Very good for recovery, but not so good for the wood pile.

Edit: Oh, and I look good in a singlet. At least that’s what my wife says.

Looks like a beneficial experience in view of what’s ahead, Mday. Good lift!

I should have remembered from all my years playing BBall that during competition everything just goes so fast that you really don’t have time to do anything but fall back on what you did in practice. I like the “stable technique” term.

As much as my wife loves me, she agrees that singlets are not my best fashion statement.

If you are classifying me with “those nuts in California” I must respectfully request that I be grouped with “those other nuts from California.” We’ve broken from the first set and created our own nutty agendas.

Did I misspell that? Should it be yawl y’awl or yall? I’m unsure of the quaint English conventions of the South.

You spelled it correct and used it with the correct sentance structure. You know we southerners, it’s all about accent.

Great goin’ mday!
Got some great stuff to work on now and first meet jitters are gone. Looking forward to seeing your performance next meet!

Two very good sessions the last two days. The elbows and shoulders are a little sore but I did all my chest/shoulder work with a palms in grip to try and relieve some of the pain. I need to figure out the seated DB power cleans again.

Tomorrow is max. effort squat day again. I would like to get a clean 295 for 3 reps. This would mean that I am getting very close to a 315 opener come November. We shall see.

I have to take that back about looking good in a singlet. I could have sworn she said “Sexy, so sexy,” but she says is was “Silly, completely ridiculous.” At least its easy to see how I could have gotten it mixed up.
