Skeptical of my “Smart” Scale body composition assessment

Feeling a little vulnerable to post, but just need feedback from the community.

On TRT @ 100mg / week for 8 months.

I know there is no before picture, but my smart scale says I am 29% BF. I know I am not shredded like most T-Nationers but am curious about whether the community thinks this is an accurate reading.

I tend (want) to believe it’s a little high.

I know a Dexa would give me an accurate reading, but opinions from T-Nation are cheaper…

Sorry, id love to help but i need you to hold a shoe for reference.

Not 29% lol.

My scale swaps water and muscle interchangeably in back to back readings and I apparently gain and lose significant bone density week to week.

Go by the mirror and health markers unless there is a reason to have a very specific body fat percentage for some reason.

Not 29%. Maybe half that - and smart scales are liars. Listen to njord.

i got somewhat similar BF to you and got 20.4% on a dexa. 25% on smart scale. you are prob in the 18-22% range. most my fat is on belly too, but yeah those scales are junk

You are nowhere near 29% body fat. You look great

Looking good! I’d estimate more like 18%ish.

I am going to make sure I ask you next time I want a fat % evaluation. Guy just lost 11% in less than a day.

Seriously though OP, you are not 29% fat.

Electrical impedance is used on allot of those smart scales. Being dehydrated along with a few other things will throw them way off.

I feel like the key thing to remember is, irrespective of what the scale says: you look how you look. You hear it all the time “No one is breaking out the bodyfat scale on stage at the bodybuilding show”
