Size Matters

We’re still training. We’ve been doing a 4 week raw cycle based on Prilipin’s table. We’re in the third week. After next week, we’re starting an extended cycle that is raw, partial gear and full gear leading into Provincials in January.

I’ve revised my training to, hopefully, get more in the next meet. I’ve been feeling stronger when I go from raw training into gear and then weaken.

We’ll see how this works.

This video is our assistance tonight playing around with wide paused squats. It’s more of a deadlift assistance. This is the 6th set and by this time, it was getting a lot less poppy out of the hole.

We also McGyvered a reverse hyper with our bench and some wooden boxes. It works really well.

Your next meet is right around the corner.

I usually train with a cycle that involves raw and phasing in the gear. I thought you did that regularly? How have you done it in the past?

Damn you squat wide. Looked great.

That’s not my normal squat. It’s more of a sumo deadlift assistance thing. I was channeling Eric Kupperstein

One of our M2 guys squats that wide. He used to be a competitive gymnast. It’s amazing to watch.

I do normally train like that kind of. I train raw and then train in gear. I pulled a cycle off elitefts that was set up incorporating Prilipins table. My normal peaking cycle is 6 weeks. This one will be 13 or 14 weeks and it has a lot less volume and intensity than I normally use. I have a feeling that’s part of my problem; too much at too high a weight.

It will be a good experiment for me because while we have to compete at Provincials to go to Nationals, we don’t have to win. We don’t even have to total. We just have to qualify and lift. It’s a good meet to try new things out.

WOW! Man you have some hip flexibility!

I find trying to drive up fast out of a wider squat position from a dead stop much harder than from a narrower stance. Must use slightly different muscles.

Any chance of a photo of your reverse hyper ‘thingamajig’?

you look like a spider lady pouncing in that squat vid

Just a quick update on training. We’re in week 4 of a prilipin structured short cycle. It’s heavy singles all week. Today was squats.

It looked like this:
bar-10
115-5
155-3
185-3
205-2
220-1 (planned working weight but I decided to just go to 225)
225-6 singles
225-3 rep PR. They were all barely parallel but I’ll take them anyway.

BB identified a foot width and stance that he said look very natural and comfortable for me. I videod all the squats from 115 to see how it looked as it got heavier and I got fatigued.

MP
bar-5
55-3
77.5-1 (again planned working sets but felt light)
80-6 singles
87.5-1
90 -1 5lb PR which is at the end of the squat video and almost looks like a joke because it’s so slow. You can see how I’m a deadlifter in this video.
80-4

Bench assistance with sling shot
135-5
135-4 paused
135-5 paused

BB row
135-3x10

ftr, I’m wearing a mouth guard. I have a couple of cracked molars that I’m getting fixed next week. I’m not a good dentist person and have a prescription so they don’t have to peel me off the ceiling.

Very interesting to watch the progression of your squat as the weight increases. And while the form breaks down a bit and the depth gets compromised at the end, you’re still raw squatting 225! Wowsie. Thanks for sharing that.

What, no comment on my awesome pressing? I had to laugh at how my arms looks like spaghetti strings and they almost hit the ceiling.

I’m impressed by the pressing. You stay with it. That’s the difference between success and failure in many max lifts.

Today was heavy Deadlift day before we drop to light weights starting the next meet cycle.

It went like this
135-2x5
185-3
225-1
265-7 singles
265-5 I had to do this since it’s roughly body weight and someone mentioned it as a challenge. It was my grip that started to go so I decided to do
275-2 I though I’d get more but I was done

Snatch grip deads
135-3x10

Face pulls with bands
3x10

superset with
push ups
3x20

Of course you meant double BW. Very nice.

I tried pulling reps at double BW once. I got 3. And that was in a suit.

Not sure I’ll ever be able to beat you at one of these challenges!

haha. You’re right I meant double body weight unless I’m super dense.

I enjoyed training this week just doing heavy singles but I’ll be just as happy to drop to light weight for more volume next week. I’m so happy to be out of gear right now.

I am always inspired and impressed pretty much every time you post something.

wow, watching you fight to keep those knees out on those squats, such a great effort!

You were so fast on those lighter wide squats, I was praying you weren’t going to pull something, you have such flexibility!

I’m also glad you didn’t scrape your knuckles on the ceiling on that MP…

I’m surprised I didn’t hit the ceiling on my MP. I look a little bit ridiculous my arms appear so long.

I love your log

That’s what I tell BB but it means something completely different

Thanks very much for the nice thought. I’m always channeling you when I’m doing tons o reps.

Loved the PR ohp at the end of the squat video. I’m not sure I would have stayed with a lift that long to get it.
