Nice squats, looking strong, depth looked good from this angle! I think you struggled with depth last week if i remember?
Yes, I’m pretty sure my depth was good on those. Last week was the first time I’d had the suit back on and it was humid. The humidity makes it stick to your body which, actually, gives you more out of the gear, but makes it harder to hit depth.
I was pleased with the depth because the squats were all super slow and felt really heavy.
Lol, i remember those sweaty/humid suit days! Squats probably felt heavier than they looked!
The point of this was to focus on cleaning up my form. I was trying to set up straight legged, pull down to the bar, arch hard and look up. This met with only moderate success. There were a ton of people around and a lot of distractions. That’s where our team trains and a lot of us are getting ready for worlds.
Front squats
95-5
115-5
135-5x5
OH squats
65-2x10
kennelly’s and Giffens
various sets, reps and weights
Hammer curls for fun.
We went to the rib fest in St. Catharines which made the trip worth while and then headed home and had a lie down.
I was so underwhelmed by the deadlifting that I went out the garage and did it again.
This time
135-3
225-3
275-2
295-1 belt
315-1 belt
335-3x1 straps up.
The video shows them all from 295. They were much better. I need the quiet and no distractions to focus on doing it differently that I normally would. I still have a bit of a left lean but not nearly as pronounced. However, we’ll see what it looks like when it gets heavier.

did that unevenness in your dl just popup? so strange… Might happen more now that your brain is on high alert?
GREAT squats by the way–you looked up and arched to me.
It did just kind of pop up which is very frustrating. I think I may have gotten much of it out with a change in set up. We’ll have to see when I go heavier.

What’s your opinion of this weekends dead lifts versus last weekends. I tried to implement some of the feedback. You, in particular suggested I wasn’t sitting back enough.

You look a lot smoother, more fluid - sitting back more, head up. Question, does IPF not allow adjustable straps?

Nope. No velcro, nothing. They must all be sewn. It’s too bad. I have an awesome idea for ratchet straps to adjust. Can you imagine how you could crank those down?

Okay, because I was going to say maybe loosen your straps ever so slightly, so you can get down easier but then when you ‘look up’ they tighten. I am starting to play with this, helps having traps to flex into the suit too…
I’m trying to figure out which shirt to wear for the meet. It’s likely going to be the katana
squat
bar-10
135-5
bb dug out an old, old size 36 nxg centurian for me to use for some support in the groin so hopefully I won’t get the pulling in my left adductor again. It was the loosest one and pulled on like a pair of shorts but gave a bit of support.
185-5
205-5
215-2x5
225-4 - supposed to be 5 but fell apart in the hole.

Hey O, do you know if ZMA is a legal supplement as far as IPF is concerned?
aren’t all supplements banned in the IPF? Protein powder gives lifters an unfair advantage over those who are dependent on nothing but food…
Actually, as of 2011, food is banned.
Seriously, check out the site Global Dro. It is an awesome site that lets you select your country and sport and you just plug in the supplement ingredients and it will come up whether it is banned in or out of competition. I linked it on our provincial site because it is much easier to use than the printed WADA list or the IPF list.
