Situation in Libya - Should Western Powers Intervene?

Chushin, glad to hear you’re ok.

The UN has approved the no fly zone and bombings are scheduled to start tomorrow. Convenient that the public will be focused on the radiation hitting the west coast.

Libya has announced a ceasefire!

Obama said that there will be no radiation hitting the west coast, and he never lies. I feel that I have hope now.

They went back on their word. 27 people are already dead and Im sure plenty more to follow. They are already bombing cities to the east and west.

Pat, sorry for the delay in responding. I and mine fine; well away from the disaster. But believe it or not, I just went up that way, becuase I had to meet a friend coming to visit me.

Glad to be back home now.

Thanks for your concern.

Sorry, not aware of how that post matched up with the quake…didn’t realize there had been one till my wife called to tell me!
I was thinking the same as Pat - actually looked over the forums for your right-wing backside. Hontou ni daijoubu desuka? Boku no minna Nihon ni sunde iru no tomodachi mo daijoubu desu kara, ima ureshii. Ki o tsukete kudasai!

Ha! Not too bad there, my friend! Nakanaka umai jya nai ka!

It’s really funny to see myself described as “right wing.” All my friends and family would be shocked by that. I’ve had a long history of liberalism (including working for years as an idealistic social worker looking to “help the disadvantaged”).

I guess I’ve changed… Perhaps as a function of age, perhaps as a reaction to life overseas as an American expat…

Glad your friends are safe, too.
Explain yourself, I haven’t heard your story and I’m interested.
Not exactly sure what you’re asking, but in any case I’m afraid I’ve got little time right now for explanations. I’ve got a house guest from the US who pretty much demands my attention 24 / 7. Just sneaking away now and then to check T-Nation.
Are you Japanese, are you American, where were you born, why do you find being called right-wing strange?
Wow. No offense Chris, but you haven’t been paying attention for the last year that I’ve been posting here. Eh, maybe my posts were so bland as to not make an impression…

I’m as American as it gets (just ask Orion! Ha!)

As I wrote, “It’s really funny to see myself described as “right wing.” All my friends and family would be shocked by that. I’ve had a long history of liberalism…”
Well as my vocations director put it, G-d blessed me with the gift of forgetfulness before I even entered the seminary. And, I wasn’t sure if that was sarcasm or not.

France launched an attack, expect a surrender anytime soon with Paris being offered as a peace treaty.

Expect headline to read:

“French realizing they only know how to surrender, offered Ghaddafi all of France in exchange for peace”

Ghadaffi is now in talks to trade countries.

I laughed at loud on that one.

Well it’s on.

I’m sure everybody’s been following the situation in Libya and there has been talk of some form of military intervention. Whether it’s imposing a no fly zone, air strikes on key installations, to sending troops. Do you think it’s a good idea or do you think this situation should play out without outside intervention.

Personally, I’m against intervention by the west. I think that if the west gets involved militarily, the entire Arab world would flip out. The US could get bogged down in another occupation. The opposition would be undermined in the public eye as a revolt caused by the US in some way. As much as I would like to see the situation there resolved quickly and with as little bloodshed as possible, involvement by western powers wouldn’t help in the long term.
I prefer “we” do not get involved, as I don’t want to be deployed to yet another 3rd World toilet.

Iraq was enough for me.
So quit the military.
Doesnt work like that.
Of course it does. He has been in long enough. He knew what he was getting into. He just wants to whine about it.

So we’ve got ourselves a no-fly zone over Libya that’s being enforced by launching missiles and dropping bombs on command centers and tanks…I guess if it’s not at sea-level it’s “in air space” and is fair game?

Umm, no it doesn’t.

And secondly, should I be looking forward to the possibility of being deployed to Libya?

Or, are you simply a jackass, that, for some reason, likes to take shots at me whenever he can?
Chushin wrote:

He HAS quit.

He’s just still whining about it.
Gee, thanks pal. I guess I should be hoping to go to the ME again?

And you would be wrong, as I’m still in the Reserves.

WHY would you still be in the reserves given your beliefs?!?!?
So he can still whine about it. Hello?

I kid…

Great…and now there are reports that the Marine Osprey sent to recover the pilots of an F-15 that crashed opened fire on villagers attempting to hand the pilot over.
