Your youth is showing, Pat.

It’s from the Viet Nam era.
Chushin - does this mean we’re showing our age…?

Makkun
Probably, but if it’s any comfort, I always had you figured for a younger guy. Bright and insightful, but still younger. :-)
Well, I am going to be 40 this year. Not exactly a kid anymore, and old enough to remember some 70s slogans.

I’m sure everybody’s been following the situation in Libya and there has been talk of some form of military intervention. Whether it’s imposing a no fly zone, air strikes on key installations, to sending troops. Do you think it’s a good idea or do you think this situation should play out without outside intervention.

Personally, I’m against intervention by the west. I think that if the west gets involved militarily, the entire Arab world would flip out. The US could get bogged down in another occupation. The opposition would be undermined in the public eye as a revolt caused by the US in some way. As much as I would like to see the situation there resolved quickly and with as little bloodshed as possible, involvement by western powers wouldn’t help in the long term.
I prefer “we” do not get involved, as I don’t want to be deployed to yet another 3rd World toilet.

Iraq was enough for me.
So quit the military.
Doesnt work like that.

Jesus Christ, just fucking assassinate Ghaddafi. He needs to be shot and killed. No other way to go about it.

At the very least, give the opposition some help…give them resources or something. Ghaddafi will quash this shit because he is a fucking dictator who fires on his own fucking people with jets/helicopters. Ridiculous.

Fuck Giving Help, most of the international feels as though all our intervention makes shit worse, especially that part of the world, were hating on America is the norm.

NRT- you make a good point. It is shameful to allow the government to use air force against the people, when we can stop them so easily.

Let us know your ok, when you can, please. I find the date time stamp of this last post eerie… How soon after this last post did the quake hit?

Pat, sorry for the delay in responding. I and mine fine; well away from the disaster. But believe it or not, I just went up that way, becuase I had to meet a friend coming to visit me.

Glad to be back home now.

Thanks for your concern.

Sorry, not aware of how that post matched up with the quake…didn’t realize there had been one till my wife called to tell me!
I was thinking the same as Pat - actually looked over the forums for your right-wing backside. Hontou ni daijoubu desuka? Boku no minna Nihon ni sunde iru no tomodachi mo daijoubu desu kara, ima ureshii. Ki o tsukete kudasai!

They are going to let the rebels get crushed. For the simple fact that if the rebels are crushed it will make people in Saudi Arabia less eager to test the powers that be.

All kidding aside, are we better off with Momar (sp) in power or ousted and a huge power vacuum to fill?
Who the fuck cares?

Finally the Arab people have accepted that they will either implement changes on their own or they will never happen.

Awesome, Id prefer if Big Satan stayed out of this.

You mean Great Satan?

Ha! Not too bad there, my friend! Nakanaka umai jya nai ka!

It’s really funny to see myself described as “right wing.” All my friends and family would be shocked by that. I’ve had a long history of liberalism (including working for years as an idealistic social worker looking to “help the disadvantaged”).

I guess I’ve changed… Perhaps as a function of age, perhaps as a reaction to life overseas as an American expat…

Glad your friends are safe, too.
Explain yourself, I haven’t heard your story and I’m interested.

I haven’t practiced in years - and I’m seeing that my Hepburn transcriptions are a bit shaky, so I’m kekko heta these days.

Oh, with the ‘right wing’ - didn’t want to offend; just a litle jodan - and compared to a pinky liberal bleeding heart like mine… Keep safe.

On thread: I’m in two minds - I feel (see above) for the rebels, yet, I think that most interventionist policies (a no flight zone) are bound to end up in an escalation. A sea blockade (Libya seems to be depending on their coastal towns) and selective delivery of goods (including weapons?) to Benghazi would strike me as acceptable though.

Makkun

Even we in the Middle East do not know much about Libya, but it itâ??s clear that the rebels are not organized act randomly, Libya is a tribal country of conflict goals with each other and they do not have a political agenda any military intervention from abroad will increase bloodshed significantly between all parties, especially that many of the rebels reject military intervention These foreign troops would not know who supports who

Not exactly sure what you’re asking, but in any case I’m afraid I’ve got little time right now for explanations. I’ve got a house guest from the US who pretty much demands my attention 24 / 7. Just sneaking away now and then to check T-Nation.
Are you Japanese, are you American, where were you born, why do you find being called right-wing strange?
