Simple Carbs Tracking-Muscle Building

When tracking carbs and training for strength and hypertrophy should simple carbs from say a candy bar or no alcohol beer be considered as “counting” towards daily carb intake, specifically for the purpose of gaining size and strength? Or should additional better carbs be consumed to account for the simple ones? Thank You!

They count. Everything counts.

Perhaps, you should not be eating them if you consider others “better”.

Simple carbs would count. But also: quit eating junk.

Haha gotcha! Thank for the reply. Greatly appreciated!!
Can I also ask this:
If a product list both carbs and net carbs, which one would I count? There are drastic differences is various products.
Thank you again

Count them all.

Net carbs are not free, they still have calories even if it is not the complete 4 per gram.

Eat real food not processed junk.

Yea, I hear ya! I generally eat pretty healthy. I saw today low carb tortillas but they said 19 grams of carbs and 4 grams of net carbs. Confused the hell out of me. So I’m trying to figure all this out so I can weed out all of the crap food.
Thanks for your help!

There’s also the hormonal influence to consider

Look at MORE than just macros. Read the ingredients. Those low-carb tortillas read like a science experiment.

I don’t eat carbs, but if I did, and I wanted to buy some tortillas, I’d buy ones that read like this

or this

Not this

Not a carb eater either. Works well for me

For me, the issue is that animals have SO few carbohydrates in them, haha.

Net carbs is a bit of a game where they subtract fiber from the total carb count. While it’s great to get your fiber in, that’s not how calories work.

At this point in your game, though, I’d really focus on food quality more so than counting your calories. Eat single-ingredient foods and you’ll see how a lot of this will take care of itself.

As somewhat of an aisde, we all like to justify junk food when we’re getting those sweet gainz, but you know the candy bar isn’t doing you any favors.

Hasn’t the “need” for fiber been debunked ?

Not by the AHA, but I certainly wouldn’t claim to be an expert here. I don’t think “more is better,” but the (admittedly limited) literature with which I’m familiar seems to show positive lipid profile impacts from ~25g daily.

Plus it’s just nice to be able to go poopies.

Either way, even if you don’t need any fiber at all, I’ll stand by the main points of:

  1. Eat whole, unprocessed foods
  2. Net carbs is not a helpful equation
