We’re in a very similar spot bench wise and there’s something I’ve found which has really helped me engage the legs, get set as per usual, then just before lifting out, I squeeze my glutes really hard and maintain throughout, the legs pretty much take care of themselves after that.

It may or may not help you, but hey if one dude can’t recommend another dude squeezes his butt then I don’t know what the world’s come to.

So I got the results of my recent sleep study yesterday and thought some of you may find them interesting.

The purpose of the study was to assess my sleeping, mostly to determine how bad I snored.
My wife has been getting very little sleep for a while and I needed to do something to reduce the noise levels. When I spoke with the specialist before I had the study, he felt there was a low likelihood of any sleep apnoea based on my responses to questions about how tired I felt and any loss of focus during the day.

When I went back to see him yesterday, he was more than a little surprised by the results of the study.

The study showed that I did indeed snore and it was quite bad. Looks like my wife was right again. During the study It was noted that I spent all of my time sleeping on my back. This was mostly because of all the wires and it being too uncomfortable to sleep on my side, but I do mostly sleep on my back anyway The specialist did note that because I didn’t sleep any time on my side it was not possible to tell if the results would be different. (obviously).

During the night I had a number of times where I woke but went back to sleep within around 7 mins. It felt like on the day that I did not get much sleep, I remember filling in a questionnaire after and saying I though I only got 2 hours sleep. Well according the study I slept for a total of 282.5 mins so nearly 5 hours.
Of that time 97.7% was Non REM and 5.3% was REM sleep. with a sleep efficiency of 61%. I think this basically measures how good/deep the sleep was. Mine wasn’t great.

Now on to the important stuff. The study measured Respiratory Events, these are essentially times when you stop breathing in your sleep. It was noted on the study that there were frequent events.

These are measured in The apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) represents the average number of apneas and hypopneas you experience each hour during sleep .

For this there is a scale. Under 5 is normal, 5-15 is Mild, 15-30 is Moderate and Over 30 is Severe.

And wait for it, drum roll… I had 46.7 per hour. That is close to one per minute !!!

The other key measurement is ODI , which is oxygen desaturation index (ODI). Desaturation episodes are generally described as a decrease in the mean oxygen saturation of ≄4% or ≄3%(over the last 120 seconds) that lasts for at least 10 seconds.

Mine ODI was 31.9hr for 3% and 17.2hr , the benchmark for increased health risks is 25. So looks like I beat this one too.

The overall result is that I have severe sleep apnoea, which was a complete surprise to both me and my specialist. He basically said that I was A-symptomatic, and whilst I am getting pretty poor sleep I have been able to function normally which is rare.

The next steps now are for me to trail a CPAP machine and see how that improves both the snoring and my sleep. Best case scenario I start to get better sleep and feel great and the noise of the machine is less intrusive than my snoring and my wife sleeps too.

Fingers crossed!

Yeah wow.

My wife went through this also mate. Something to do with a shitty nasal passage. Anyway, two nights on the CPAP and she was a completely different person. Bouncing off the walls…

How she functioned prior to that we have no idea. The human body can adapt to almost anything…including Apnoea it seems.

Imagine the forthcoming gains if the CPAP becomes your best buddy…

And don’t worry too much about the sounds of the machine and you keeping her awake anymore. If anything it puts me to sleep these days :joy:

That is very reassuring to hear mate. I honestly don’t mind if I don’t feel much extra energy from using the machine. I am more concerned at how tired the wife is. It is good to know though that your wife felt great and this is a similar story to another friend of mine who thought his sleep was good until he got the machine and after he realized how tired he had been.

Yeah I’m starting to think I might need a sleep study also. I think I sleep ok most days. But I get random days of fuckedness for no reason. Lol
