Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries Part 2.0

Thank you for the answer, and the underlying theme of “it’s still going to be hard”.

I’m working on trying not to escalate the situation when I see her start to go down the path; it’s really hard not to raise my voice, but I did manage to keep things a bit more tame tonight. Instead of things blowing up until a 45+ minute ordeal, they settled down in less than 10 minutes and – with quite a bit of difficulty – I complimented her ability to calm herself down. She responded well to that positive encouragement. This stuff is so tricky.

Ditto on “Being a parent is hard”.

I have input from the other side of things as a kid growing up with ADHD. Simo pretty much hit the nail on the head on the approach to try. Usually as we get older we tend to find working with our hands the best way to learn. School will defiantly be tough in the learning department because our attention span is low. If they enjoy something they will out 110% effort into it.

@LoRez and @simo74 i think ive mentioned this, we have some very serious issues with one of ours. It sounds similar to the Simo situation but different of course as every child, condition, situation, etc is unique.
I wish we had answers! We keep trying our best and experimenting.
Ditto that it’s hard.

Wednesday evening - No training for me. Tonight I am spending the night in hospital undergoing a sleep study. My snoring has been getting worse and worse. Which while I don’t feel like it impacts my own sleep that much (I may of course be very wrong). It does impact on my wife and even wakes the kids occasionally. Hopefully the sleep study will at least give me some answers as to what is happening and if there is any thing I can do to minimize the noise.

I should probably consider that at some point as well. My mate had to share a hotel room with me and was PISSED the next morning and when I slept at my partner’s place she wore an actual ear protection designed for gun ranges.

There are probably different flavors of snoring, but I think the starting point is that you have an obstructed airway and are not getting enough oxygen. Probably not a good thing, but I am sure there are degrees.

Plus, it is noisy as fuck and super annoying. Get that shit fixed for the sake of your fellow man.

I once had a diagnostic run on it (with a kit at home). Doc said I was snoring alright(!) but there was no lack of oxygen or anything accompanying my snoring that needed fixing from a medical point of view.

But yes, I feel for my partners and friends.

Long non training post ahead.

Ok well that was the worst night of sleep I have ever had. Worse than having 3 young kids, worse than flying for 24 hours with 3 young kids.

Got to the hospital around 6:30pm. Checked in and had to wait around for a while until all the other sleep study patients turned up. Got up to the sleep study unit around 7:15pm and was shown to my room. Nurse explained the process and went through some basic questions and health checks. I got into my sleep wear (boxers and a t shirt - usually sleep nude but didn’t do that for obvious reasons) and waited for her to come back and hook up the wires.

8:00 pm the nurse comes back and starts putting on all the sensors and wires. 18 in total that went on my legs, body, and around my head. Plus 2 straps around my body, two things up my nose and one on my finger.
Nurse is very good at her job and friendly. Asks me what I do for work and then says ‘you obviously work out, do you compete in any sports?’ Well that made my day and put a smile on my face.
I chill for a bit and do some work and watch some you tubes on the lap top.

10:30 I buzz the nurse to go to the toilet. She has to hang some monitor thing that all the wires plug into around my neck and then I go to the bathroom and try not to piss on any wires.
Get back in bed, she turns everything on and runs the lights out. This is the point that the torture starts !!!

It’s so hard to get any where near comfortable with all the wires. My back hurts, I have a headache, the room is way too light with all the LEDs from the machines. There is way to much noise with other people moving around the hospital.

I try to get to sleep but it seems impossible. After maybe 20 mins I finally dose off. But unbeknownst to me the sensor on my finger comes off, next thing I know the nurse comes in the room which wakes me with a start. Your sensor has come off she says and finds it and slips it back on my finger. That just wakes me up again.

I try to sleep again but now I can hear other patients snoring through the wall. It is literally
Like torture. Lying in an uncomfortable position, in a room that is too light with all sorts of noises including snoring. I literally thought to myself It was some sort of practical joke that my wife has played on me.
Really struggle to get to sleep and last remember looking at my phone at 3:30am. Must have finally gone to sleep because then it is 6am and a nurse comes in the room and wakes me up.

They tell me they have data so it’s all good and I shouldn’t need to do another test.

Thanks Fkn goodness for that.

Have a lot of friends been through the sleep apnea testing. I’m such a light sleeper pretty sure I’d never fall asleep with all that on. I rarely snore though. Do like the SciFi vibe of the picture though.

Harry it was ridiculous, I have no idea how any of the data they get can be useful. It was as far removed from my normal routine and normal sleep that you can get. Results will take a couple of weeks and then I go back to the specialist. If they can’t do anything I will have to buy my misses some ear plus

Yeah, fuck that bullcrap. Just keep on snoring, other people can just invest in noise cancelling equipment.
