Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries Part 2.0

Na mate don’t really care for AFL much

Could you rig one up at home. Few people on here have done that

I’ve got a couple of different variations I can do with either my lat pulldown/low row or my power rack & a landmine.
Mostly though I’m just lazy and have used enough really good belt squats to be disappointed with whatever I rig up :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m back and I missed a whole bunch of posts. I followed along on Instagram but did I miss anything here? Where’s the road heading atm?

Yeah me as well. I’ve had back issues for years and tried all sorts but never found a gym with a belt squad. I might actually suggest to the gym owner that he buy one. No harm I guess.

Good to see you back, hope all the exams went well.
I am in a volume block right now, which will be followed by a strength block and then peaking block. I have signed up for a powerlifting comp in December to round out the year.

Got a few issues with my upper back right now but it is just very tight sore muscles, nothing broken. It hurts most in the squat but I am seeing a physio and doing some stretching and mobility work to try and free it up.

Uh powerlifting comp sounds exciting! Although I’m not sure what a speaking block is.

:joy:. Bloody predictive text. Should say peaking - fixed it now

It’s the time allocated to him by his wife where he is given permission to speak!

Admittedly I should have been able to figure this out, haha.

@alex_uk Marriage sounds wonderful! Nah, I did get a good chuckle out of that comment.

Strongman Saturday

Sandbag 20m turn 20m (82KG - 180lbs)
Kettlebell 16kg each hand. 50m turn 50m
Did 5 rounds of this. On the last round I did the kettlebell carry 3 times with 10 breath rest between each carry. Upper back and traps were on fire by the end.

Off to see them Physio again in 30 mins. Time for a shower and some protein.

Enjoy your weekends everyone.

Kinda shit to have it BEFORE the game.

I’ll enjoy my Monday off this week in NSW. Haha

Still a solid session regardless of the laking soreness

Those are some good numbers for a man of your relative….girth. Shoot, there was no nice way to say that.

Went to see the physio on Saturday after my training session. She worked on may back a little more with some massage, cupping, tens machine and heat. Left there feeling a little better but pretty beat up and bruised.
Decided not to train on Sunday, but did 2 hours of yard work instead. Spend a heap of time raking the front grass. Its spring here, so the perfect time to rake all the dead grass out and top dress the lawn ready for it to start growing again. It was a beautiful sunny day so took the opportunity to get my shirt off end enjoy it.
Cooked a roast dinner for the family and sat down to a movie on Sunday evening. Good day.

Monday 2 Oct 23 - volume - week 4

Squat
Bar x 10
60 x 5
80 x 3
100 x 2
Upper back cramping
Decided to add the belt tonight to try and save the back a bit. Not sure it worked. It did allow me to get the work done but probably also allowed me to over work the back - stupid idea really.
125 x 10 x 3 sets (275 lbs) - RPE - 8, 8, 8
Lungs were so fked. Weight felt heavy but it is week 4 so that’s a good thing. Kept it to 3 sets because back was cramping bad. After the third set even breathing was painful.

Bulgarians
37.5 x 8 x 3 sets (83 lbs each hand) - erm no fking way.
Couldn’t even pick the dumbells off the floor. Back was totally rooted.

Db bench
37.5 x 10 x 2 sets (83 lbs) -
Stopped after 2 sets, just picking them up and putting them down was cramping my back. Hard to stand up or walk that well after each set. Shame cause press felt strong.

5 mins on the echo bike with legs only to finish. Really hoping my back feel better after a sleep.

Wednesday 4th October - volume - week 4

Jefferson curls
20kg bar - 10 slow reps

deadlift
60 x 5 x 3 sets (132 lbs)
This was all the back could manage

Seated hammer strength shoulder press
20 x 12
30 x 10
30 x 10
30 x 10
30 x 12
Good pump

Hammer strength seated row
40 x 10 x 3 sets
Reps felt fine with very little back pain once I was locked in. As soon as I let go of the handles and relaxed - damn it was sore !

Hammer strength pullover
3 sets

Hanging stretch

Back is so very unhappy.

Sorry the backs bugging ya. I find that hanging a dip belt with some decent weight when I hang from a bar really helps stretch out my back, may be worth a shot.
