I am pretty sure I can do exactly what he does for the first 25 sec of this video, not sure about the resto of it though. LOL

It could just be angles of the video, but what I see in Simo’s vid is that his hand are out an inch wider and thus his elbows are not stacked under his palms. That video above with Dmitry, on the other hand, he appears exactly stacked like I would expect.

Wednesday 19 Nov - week 4

Deadlift ROM - set up week
3 x 2. Inch mats - (5 mats)
Bar x 10
60 x 5
100 x 3
Straps
140 x 3
160 x 3
Belt
180 x 3
190 x 12 reps tonight - Rep PR at this height ( 418 lbs)
Would have loved to get 13 like last week but 12 was close to a complete max. This was a hard set for sure

DB overhead press
The bench i was using was more like a very high incline maybe 80 degrees.
32.5 x 8 x 3 sets -
Getting them up is still untidy but the press was ok. Got 9 reps on the last set.

Close grip bench press
87.5 x 8 x 3 sets (193 lbs)
Wrists a little sore. These were hard work especially the last few reps.

Lat pull downs (wide grip)
91 x 10 x 3 sets (200 lbs)
Chalk on these but no straps, grip held ok but hands were sore. Lots of movement - Ronnie style

Ab wheel roll outs from knees
3 sets 10
hanging leg raises - did these holding a bar and hanging to stretch my back at the same time.
3 sets of 15 -

And that is another damn good session done. Was feeling good albeit a little tired going in but feeling swole and bullet proof coming out. Quality

You’re crushing those pulls!

If you really wanna try “next level” stuff, see how many reps you can get in on the initial brace. Instead of breathing out on the top of the first rep, just hold it and keep going. In my experience, this continues to carry over into making this style of training effective for pulling off the floor/pulling heavy singles. Since the ROM is currently reduced, rep duration is reduced, so it doesn’t quite approximate time under load compared to a full ROM rep. It’s why we pull touch and go rather than dead stop: to keep tension duration equal. Well the same can apply with brace duration: you train your body how to hold the brace for the amount of time you’d need for full pulls from the floor by holding it for multiple shorter reps.

Plus, it’s the best way to blow out all the blood vessels in your face, chest, shoulders and traps.

OK challenge accepted. I will ty this next week. When you do this technique, do you also try to do multiple reps with your second breath and third breath etc..

When you do this technique, do you also try to do multiple reps with your second breath and third breath etc..

That would be ideal, but I often find it impossible. The whole experience honestly reminds me of rising to the surface after being submerged under deep water. You’re holding your breath for as long as you can, then finally get to “the surface”, breathe fire out of your lungs, take a lot of gasping breaths, and then each rep after that you’re gasping. If you CAN hold on for more, go for it.

The other advantage of this approach is that the reps tend to move faster on that initial pull, just because you don’t have to take the time to rebrace. I also find it “safer” in that regard as well, since the first brace is the best one.

Roger that. I’ll try next week and video the set for everyone’s amusement.

Friday 21 Nov week 4

Push press (from rack)
40’x 3
60 x 3
70 x 3
80 x 3
82.5 3 x 5 sets - did 4 reps on the last set.
These were ok. Biceps were killing by the end. Focusing on keeping the bar speed after the push. Trying to remember to look up and use a little lean back.

Leg press
190 x 10 x 4 sets -
Proper old fashioned hard work

Lever squat - facing machine
190 x 10 x 3 sets - 1
Hard to breath after each set of these. They were tough.

Tricep push downs
34 x 3 sets - 75 lbs
14, 12, 12
Arms were burning

Dumbell shrugs
47.5 x 10 x 3 sets. (105 lbs)

If hard work is good for the soul then I must have the soul of a saint. Training is so good right now. Body is sore everyday but it just keeps chugging forever like an old tractor. Quality

@Cyrrex @Koestrizer some of these were good, some were not so good.

Not sure if it was my imagination, or the angles, or whatever, but sets 4 and 5 somehow looked easier? In any case, anything that actually makes it overhead is good work in my opinion. Also good to see you doing it with some Big Boy weights.

Yep set 4 and 5 were the best. I remembered to really grip the bar hard and try to be aggressive with the press.

Funny you say that about gripping the bar
I think this is one of the only exercises I do with a false grip.

But do you still squeeze it hard

That’s a very sexy question.

But no, I guess I am not.

It’s hardly my fault that the language of weightlifting, bodybuilding and related sports are absolutely filled with naughty euphemisms. But it is my sacred duty to point them out whenever possible.
