So no training this week. I have a few issues with my neck from an old motorbike accident, have narrowing of the disc between 4 and 5 and the calcification of the vertebrae. Basically the 2 vertebrae are almost touching and they get jammed sometimes which puts pressure on the nerves and locks up all the muscles in my neck and upper back. Sittimg too long tends to make it worse. Went to my sons kindergarten graduation (yes that is a real thing !!! Who knew ?) on wendensday and after sitting on a ridiculously small chair and a bad sleep that night I woke up on Thursday stiff as a board. Been walking round like the tin man out of Oz for two days. Neck and back are sore as and now my left hip is fked too. Hoping a bit of light movement over the weekend will free it all up if not it’s off to the chiro or osteo to get sorted. Not a happy Chappy !!

The week off won’t set me back, I’ll deload next week and be back stronger and better recovered. But this really is a pain in the neck !!
Damn spinal issues suck! Any active recovery the doctor chiro has given you?
Other than strength work for the neck there’s not too much I can do. Usually when it locks up, a massage, an adjustment and a good sleep clears it. Haven’t had it like this for more than a year so can’t complain. I’ll take the odd neck pain over bad knees any day.
I’ve put mine out a few times, one of those 5 or 10 buck neck and shoulder massages at the local shop does wonders, I just hate walking in to the place, haha
Yer those and the local Thai massage parlour with the neon lights in the window !!!
I don’t think I could ever walk into a parlor. We have some uppity spas and I can handle those but our VICE section is always running stings on the “parlors”. Apparently happy endings are quite common around here… And human trafficking. There’s always that. I guess those poor girls get brought over here and forced to work and never allowed to really live an individual life.

The Thai place I go to get a deep tissue massage looks like that, they haven’t offered me a happy ending yet… They just knee me in the back.

We have normal ones too. It just seems like they keep getting the small ones for prostitution and/or gambling. My city has a shade under 400,000 people. It’s not huge, but it’s the biggest city in the state and it has a little bit of everything.

The combination of that and @painter27 talking about how he hates walking into the place made me think of our shady parlors here. I’d be afraid to get caught up in the sting operation when all I was looking for was to alleviate some muscle pains.

Monday 11th December Squat and Bench
Neck and back still a bit sore from my week off but decided to stop whinging get back to the gym. No plan tonight just worked some sets of 5. Wasn’t feeling 100% but it was good to back under the bar and good to be able to turn my head from side to side !!

Bar felt heavy tonight, lower back sore which made keeping tight in the midsection difficult.

Wasn’t looking forward to tonight, legs are still very sore and it’s hard to flex the quads. But despite being old and rusty I had a pretty good session.

Good session with mega shoulder pump, legs are still sore but hoping the pain will move to my upper body overnight !!
Increase squat frequency? I had debilitating DOMS from squats for upto 4 days. When I started squatting every gym session it vanished completely. Even if you tack on KB Goblet Squats at the end of your session and call it conditioning.
