Stones felt good. A little hard to initiate the clean, you will see me trying to find the right hand position on the heavier stone. If you get the clean right they seem to roll up the chest easier than a bag, but hey are also less forging if you get it wrong.
Really appreciate the detailed comments mate. It was like I was reading a post comp review.
Old strong is exactly what I aspire to be. I entered this comp with zero yoke or stone experience, never pulled a 14” deadlift and no practice of the events as they were run. I used a belt for yoke but that was it for the day. The rest it was just me in my shorts and t shirt.
I just made sure I was strong in training and went hard on the day.
Back was sore all evening but nothing broken. Got up Sunday morning and spend the first 2 hours of the day washing the wife and my cars. Felt way better once I was moving about. Still sore it mid back (rhomboids) but the rest of me is all good other than some stone bruises and my stupid calf.
Is this a cultural thing? I don’t wash my wife or my cars (the latter due to water restrictions in CA; the former due to, well, I’m not sure but she prefers washing herself).
Not cultural I just love having a clean car and I have always washed my wife’s car for her. We tend to decide a lot of household chores. I rarely do laundry and she rarely washes a car.
Monday Monday …….
Body feeling ok, few more bruises showing but back is only slightly sore.
Woke up with a head cold again this morning. I am guessing this is a post contest come down. Off to the airport later today and then a 6 hour flight to Bali. I doubt I will do much training or posting whilst away. Keep training hard everyone and I’ll see you in 2 weeks.
Little late to the party, but awesome job on the comp! You looked REALLY strong on both the deadlifts and sandbag/stone event, and I honestly think the yoke could have been a big points moment for you had you been able to practice before, given that your second walk, while fatigued, still looked miles stronger than your first. Awesome work, way to put yourself out there!
Thanks mate. This is really what it is all about for me. It’s great to train and make yourself stronger, fitter, faster etc. but there is nothing better than testing yourself.
Not that it really matters because I was only there to do my best abs that’s what I did. But both those kids have done novice comps before and trained events. Coming in cold and being a little more mature, I definitely have a good showing. The other lads in my category were great lads, all supporting each other and cheering each other on. I found the whole environment very positive and would tell anyone who will listen to just get out and do a comp.
Thanks Wisey. A lot of the mad stuff I do know would not be possible without your coaching, programming, guidance and friendship over the past 5 years. I would still be doing curls in the squat rack and 1/4 squats. You are a stand up geezer mate. Thankyou
