Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries (Part 1)

OK so today I feel like I was kicked by a horse. Lower back is tight as hell and hamstrings and still sore. Deadlift tonight is going to be interesting and the max drop set of leg press is going to be horrible.

People are intimated by hard workers I’ve found mate.
Only the old blokes talk to me down at the wife’s gym - too old care for intimidation, and great old blokes to chat to too. The young blokes won’t even make eye contact haha, think I’ve spoken to One in my 5-6 visits the last few months.

I honestly think young folks by and large have forgotten how to talk to people. Communication has already changed (we’re all on phones and computers), then you throw in many of us work from home now, sports/ play aren’t a major part of youth culture, and staying locked in your home was mandatory for the last couple years. It’s a tough hill for them to climb.

So I made a pretty big decision for me today. As most of you that read my log will have gathered by now I am very much a creature of habit. Once I am comfortable with something I rarely change it. Think 5 years of the same lunch every day and you get the picture.

Well today I decided to change from gyms !! OMG no way I hear you say, why would you do that.

I have been thinking about it for a while. My gym has lost a few of the members since covid and it just doesnt have the same vibe it used to have. It is a little limited with equipment and whilst it has enough to get the job done, it doesn’t give me much variation and has limited strength or powerlifting related equipment.

So I found a new gym. The new gym is 10 mins from home vs 5 mins for the old one. So not a big difference. The price is the same and it is open 24/7 just like the old one.

The new gym is strength training and powerlifting specific and has so much cool equipment I didn’t know where to look first. Too many different bars to count and just cool stuff. It has 4 different reverse hypers for Fk sake!!

So with a new year almost upon us it was time for Simo to make a big leap and put himself out of his comfort zone.

Training itself won’t change too much Initially but now I have lots of options.

Website for new gym if anyone is interested.

One cool thing that I know @T3hPwnisher and @wiseman83 will appreciate is that one of the co owners names is Paul Anderson.

Sees your post and immediately goes upstairs and makes a big protein smoothie

Great work in here as always, crushing it!

So stoked for you!
Ive never even seen a reverse hyper. Maybe thats why i have no ass and struggle with squats :grin:

That’s a great idea, man. Gotta shake things up sometimes.

There’s never been a better sign to change gyms than that. That’s fantastic.

Big change that’ll lead to bigger gains, I’m sure.

I probably should have mentioned that the other co owner is Matyn Girvan who is an Aussie powerlifter who has totaled 2000.2 but the Paul comment seemed more impressive…LOL

OK so after a pretty poor sleep I have woken with very little doms again today. It is almost like high rep deadlifts and leg press have blasted the soreness out of my body.
It is the wifes birthday today so I will take her and the kids out for dinner tonight. Already thinking about the Steak. LOL

Are you still doing any lifting at home mate, or just conditioning & sandbag/burpees at home?
