Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries (Part 1)

I’m guessing you were an expensive kid to feed?

More so now, tbh
I live of chicken, rice, sweet potato, vegies and a variety of supplements that are consumed in high quantities, I probably spend around $150/200 a week on food

When I was younger, albeit with a lot less knowledge of dietary requirements, I ate what I was given from my parents
Averaged (and I remember because I used to log what I ate for a school study from year 7-10) around the 8 to 15 weetbix a morning, a big jug flask with chicken noodles or a stew/soup with veges and lamb shanks to school, afternoon was anywhere from a full devon roll, to tuna wraps, creamy pasta salad or baked beans, and dinner was whatever was given, casseroles, steaks, potatoes and salads

Ill admit, I was never hungry when I was younger
Its the reason why I can eat such large amounts of food to this day and still not gain excess weight
An insanely fast metabolism

Only 3 weeks ago I had a 10 thousand calorie day and my weight only fluctuated like 2kgs

I was the total opposite to you @anon96032531, was always the youngest kid in my year and often the shortest. I managed to avoid any bullying through mostly a strong friendship group and also sometimes being a viscous little git. When I hit 14/15 I started lifting weights and reading BB magazines and my love for lifting has never gone away. By the time I finished school at 18 I wasn’t exactly big but was muscular and pretty strong (apparently lifting weights 4-6 days a week for 2 years will do that).
I have always had to eat hard to gain weight but eating has never been a problem for me.
Now I’m getting older (44 tomorrow) it’s harder the gain muscle and easier to gain fat. But it’s still not too hard to eat enough. Hardest thing is finding time to eat at work.

Damn! I spend around $100 atm and thats not enough (meats too expensive, id prefer to be eating more meat, veggies expensive to but i buy some fresh veggies and like $2.50 frozen veg bags) so I’ve ordered a bunch of protein to fill it in. Carbs i get alot of easily because well super cheap.

Thats not to bad of a diet tbh

Blessing or a curse?

Re: the eating at work
Yeah that is my most difficult thing if im on private jobs for the day, if im working on job sites where it hasnt been handed over to the client then its fine I can just make my own times to eat, but being dictated by job bookings with face to face interactions with clients can mean going 4 to 5 hours without meals

Did you ever compete in any affiliations when you were younger like PL or bodybuilding?

It wasnt too bad, looking back on it now most of it would be deemed “unhealthy” but it is what it is.

Its the reason why if im ever advising anyone on their diet and they are under the age of 18, is to A) enrol in a sport, B) eat anything they can, and C) repeat step B

Your body at that young of an age will manipulate any macronutrient to be useful as long as they live an active lifestyle because the hormonal reactions their bodies are going through will burn through anything and theyll literally piss, shit or sweat it out
Its only when they live a sedentary lifestyle everything goes to shit
I can pin point my weight gain from when I went from “athletic” body to “mass” body, when I gave up rugby league and AFL, which is obviously a reaction to eating the same quantity of food without the calories being used

Blessing or a curse?
Thats difficult to answer because I love to eat
But my wallet hates me for it
My partner and I share bank accounts but also have seperate accounts for personal purchases
When tax time rolled around this year, I calculated that over the last financial year, I spent over $14,000 on food
Really makes your conscious on “eating to full” and “eating to necessity”

No, all my training was BB based but never had the courage to do show. When I went to Uni at 18 yrs old, I stopped training for 2 years and became a slob !! I had a chance to join the weightlifting team and it’s deff something looking back I regret I didn’t do.
I am like many others who came and went but never managed to stay consistent. Whether it was work, women or other distractions. I had many periods from 21 to 30 yrs old where I stopped training and went back to the start

Thursday 16th August - micro 5 week 1
Deadlift and oh press

Deadlift
Bar x 10
65 x 5
105 x 3
135 x 3
147.5 x 2 x RPE 8 (little slow)
147.5 x 2 x RPE 8 (still too slow)
147.5 x 2 x RPE 8 (little better),
147.5 x 2 x RPE 8 (ok),
147.5 x 5 supposed to be 2 reps but felt like pushing it tonight. RPE 9
Focus on speed tonight and pulling aggressively. Still not as quick as I would like, but happy.

Tempo paused squat (3 sec down - 2 sec pause)
Bar x 10
65 x 5
85 x 3 paused
95 x 3 RPE 8 pause wasn’t long enough.
95 x 3 RPE 9 these are horrible
95 x 3 RPE 9 still horrible
95 x 3 RPE 9 thank god these are finished !!!
These actually felt ok. Pretty sure the descent and the pause was a little quick but they were still slow and controlled and with a good pause.

OH press
Bar x 10
45 x 5
55 x 5
65 x 5 x 4 RPE 10 last rep was a grinder
65 x 5 RPE 10 last 2 reps with leg drive
65 x 5 RPE 10 all with legs
65 x 5 RPE 10 all with legs

Barbell curls - 20kg x 25 - nice little bicep pump.

Tonight was my last workout at a 43 year old and it was a good one. Pretty sure 147.5 x 5 on deadlift is a rep PR for that weight. Squats felt horrible and solid all at the same time. I had a thought as I finished the session tonight. What ever weights I lift in my next workout will be an age PR. Bring it on !!

Happy Birthday Simo
May it be a good one and I like the age pr lift.
I’m going to start that. Every year I’ll start from scratch, and if I do it Wendler style it’s going to be a heck of a lot of pr’s, start too light
