I don’t know about you but my deloads always leave me feeling weak the following week. I try to follow Jim’s deload advice and I haven’t really found the sweet spot yet. Heavier with lower volume seems to be better than going light. I might have to try Simo’s approach with multiple sets of triples instead of just working up to my TM for a single.
Same.
I am terrible at deloads. My new plan is to rotate the deload per main lift, so it’s not all at once. 4 lifts, 4 days a week, so each week I deload only one main lift, and the other 3 are normal. Hope that makes sense.
Same same. My approach to deloads is to let other people do them.
Are they Otomix shoes?
What’s a deload?
No they are from an Aussie company called Iron Tanks, they are their Titan gym shoe. They were on clearance so very cheap but they only odd sizes or bad colours left. As I dont really care what I look like I picked up a nice red pair. They have a very flat very thin sole so good for lifting, not good for much else. LOL
I am not sure what is best, I guess it is what ever works. I think it can also depend what sort of training program you run. You may have noticed with mine that I don’t really max out or go to failure or amrap very often. Most of my sets are in the 7-8 RPE range so I am not totally trashed, so maybe I can cope with a heavier deload.
This is just me rambling so hope it makes sense.
Just to give some perspective with the deload I did last night. When I look at total weight lifted (weight x reps) for the session I get 3570kg. Last week which was the 4th week of the block it was 6960kg and when I look right back at week 1 of this block it was 3810kg. So you can see in terms of total weight in the session this was not a hard session.
Now the interesting thing is next week I will go back to week 1 which means a drop in weights, the total for the next week 1 is 3345kg. This is lower than the last week 1 because we have dropped the incline dumbell press because of some shoulder issues I am having. The deadlift weight in the next week 1 is 162.5kg vs last block week 1 was 150kg.
So there is a progression in terms of weight from one block to the next but with the heavy deload I will still feel like week 1 isn’t too hard. This helps me in a couple of ways; 1. mentally I know week 1 wont be hard and can attack it a little harder and try to move weights fast and 2. physically I don’t feel beat up too early in the block.
I don’ t know whether to take this as a joke or a serious question ? and I cant think of a funny reply. LOL
LOL nothing mate they are very sexy. Its just when they are new and shiny and the gym floor is all black matts they tend to stand out like big shiny dogs balls.
LOL—now you’re talking! ![]()
I completely understand your deload. A deload can be a reduction in volume, intensity, or both. I think your coach has kind of built in a two part deload since your next week one session will still have less total volume of weight moved than the deload week.
You have a higher intensity / lowe volume week (in terms of sets and reps followed my a lower intensity / higher volume week.
It makes sense to me and it seems to work for you.
You know me mate ![]()
Just went through 80+ posts liking almost every post in here haha. Figured it’d be way easier just to say awesome work man and the food pics look amazing
Thanks mate. From someone who works has hard as you that is a big compliment.
For nice food here is my wife’s pork stuffed cannelloni from the weekend. If I already posted these then I apologise for my Alzheimer’s ![]()
WOW! That looks amazing!
Hahaha looks like something out of a cookbook man that is beautiful!
This looks so delicious, damn you!
This is the kind of stuff that helps us put things in perspective. We are not always aware of the fatigue, of what we put our bodies through.
Ahahah my last deload made me feel like I’m an animal put into a cage, then the next monday you release me into the wilds, mouth frothing, red-eyes, ready to demolish weights at RPE 12
But it’s only my second planned deload, I’ll see how I feel this monday
Holy mouthful of drool, that looks amazing.

Good last deload session. That is all I have to say.
Fatsique update, these will be my transformation end pics too. Not much going to change in another week given I am not trying to lose weight. I have ended up pretty much where I began but maybe with a little bit of recomp. I am happy with where I am at and as the main goal is strength for powerlifting as long as I keep getting stronger then it’s all good.
