Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries (Part 1)

Guess I haven’t been in your log in 10 days, but good on yer for the job and attitude change. Looks like the lifts are getting back to where they belong as well.

Thanks mate. Job change is great and lifts are getting there. I still don’t feel strong like I did 6 months ago but I know it’s still there somewhere.

Fatsique update. Not much to look at here

First of all, hey! How goes it?

Second…even with the moderate (and by moderate I mean…not much) fluff going on, I’m quite impressed with how flat your midsection is.

Looking solid as usual.

Hey girl, I am doing better thanks. Last year was a turd of a year (for everyone really). Just changed jobs which means a lot less stress. Training is starting to go well. I have been doing a bit of recovery training since Feb which meant lower volume and weight. It also meant I ate less, which resulted in a 5kg weight loss (88kg to 83kg). The skinny person inside of me is always fighting to get out and whenever the training slows down I drop weight. I know that will annoy a lot of people who struggle to lose weight but it is my curse!!
Waisted has dropped a bit of fluff with the weight loss, so now I am focusing on eating more and getting back close to 90kg.
Good to see you back in here. I know you had some hard times last year too. How is everything now?

Ehh…it’s still hard. But giving up isn’t an option for me. Some days are bad, some days are good.

Try to focus on the good days and keep on keeping on. I really hope things sort themselves out for you.

132.5 x 4 x 4 sets (292 lbs) RPE 7, 7, 7, 7
Really solid tonight. Did 5 reps on the last set just because I was feeling fruity!!

Bench

These are tough

Abs
Feet to bar - some reps

This was the absolute best session I have done in weeks as weeks. Feeling great.

Good good! Also, I didn’t know you were so strong at pull-ups!

I haven’t really done them for a long time. Back in the day when I was young I did a whole lot of them including lots of weighted ones. I guess the body just remembered what to do. Lol

He does this all the time. I’m pretty sure he just picks a random lift he’s never really trained before and turns out to be good at it. Like when he decided on a whim to try pressing and put up 80kg.

Starting to look like it was at the start of the year.

I think you are giving me a little too much credit here. I have done most lifts before at some time or another (with the exception of olympic lifts). There is always a decent amount of carry over from other lifts. Its not like I had never lifted a weight and put up 80 in a week. Either way I am going to take your comment as a big compliment and enjoy feeling a little bit strong again.

Get to fuck you big burly bastard and stop intimidating the locals with your manliest of manly frame

I actually think I feel better than I did at the start of the year. I think right back on 11th Jan I was squatting 137.5 x 4 for 7 RPE. I think the squats last night albeit a little lighter (132.5) felt stronger.
I have already noticed that reducing the squats to 2 days a week and dropping the bulgarians has allowed much better recovery. Doms is almost non existent and no horrible joint pains. I dont want jinx it and say I am back, but I am really looking forward to deadlifts on Wednesday.

What a difference a week can make. I started my new job (same job, different site and customer) a little more than one week ago and the change in my mindset and general wellbeing is crazy. Some of you may have noticed my time on TN has increased a little which is mostly due to having a little breathing time in my day where I can eat some food and catch up on everyones logs. My mental state is already improving and that seems to have translated into an improvement in my physical state/ It is very early days but I am feeling very positive about things at the moment and so much more relaxed in general. I have no idea where I am going with this post but just wanted to record something around how I am feeling post the change.

This feeling of feeling good continues. No major doms today although I know I worked hard yesterday. Feeling hungry all the time at the moment, going to buy some snack options this weekend to keep at work. Probably just some bags of mixed nuts so I can munch on them between meals. It amazes me how different you can feel after a few weeks of a change in program. I have to give credit to my coach because I wasn’t 100% into the recovery block we just did and was more than a little skeptical about its effectiveness. Shows how much (little) I know and really shows why having someone else do the programing is really working for me. Now to ride this wave to new PR’s.
