Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries (Part 1)

Could be a hip dislocation, but

Sounds like an inflamed muscle

Friday 5th Feb

Deadlift
Bar x 10
70 x 5
110 x 3
140 x 2
165 x 1
185 x 1 ears ringing on this rep, thought I was gonna black out
150 x 4 x 3 sets
Sort of OK I guess !

Squat
Bar x 10 x 3 - just trying to open the hips

Not much to say about that .

Monday 8th Feb

Squat
Bar x 10
70 x 5
90 x 3
110 x 2
130 x 1
145 x 1 - this was slow, legs just don’t have any power at the moment. Hip hurting on this one.
130 x 2 x 3 sets - these were ok but should have been easy.

Bench

Bar x 10
70 x 5
90 x 3
100 x 5 x 3 sets
Smooth but left shoulder getting angry !!

I am so tired right now. Work is a shower of shite, and it’s spilling over into home life and making that hard too.

What’s the issue at work; something that will pass or is it here for the long term. I can only empathise, it is amazing how much of an impact something else in your life in a wholly separate sphere can have on something like your ability to focus on training.

I can empathise 100% CoVid issues?

It’s partially COVID related, just super busy and everyone getting fatigued and over it. The other piece is probably that fact that in this job the problems don’t go away. It’s like Groundhog Day, you fix something one day and the next day the problem starts again. Nothing can really be done other than maybe start thinking about a change. Thanks for asking.

Hate to hear the world is raining shit on you right now. We all have times like that. It will pass. I don’t if it would help your particular situation but I have problems with my hip at times. A couple of years ago I bought one of these braces because I was willing to try anything.

As stupid as it looks… it works! I don’t know if it works by keeping the area warm.or the actual bracing part, but I can wear mine for a few days when it starts hurting and the pain will go away.
The only regret I have is not getting it sooner.

That’s exactly where my head is at the minute as well.

Sorry to hear it’s going that way though man.

I’m not going to encourage you guys to do something drastic, but don’t be afraid of change.

If I can find someone to hire me as a teacher then I’m taking it.

The idea of the change excites me. If I think about the actual job and going back to school, it scares me.

Already looking and planning dude.

Not to be mean, but I’m just not sure you have what it takes to make it as a Chippendales dancer.

Not sure if you’re talking about simo or dagill but I disagree either way. There is a market for everything.

Was talking about Dagill in this case. I mean, you’ve seen Simo’s calves…

I wasn’t aware about calves being of significant relevance but I do know rule 101 of porn, so I’m not questioning you.

So I mad a tough decision today but I believe it is the right one. I have pulled out of the Feb comp and moved my entry to an April meet (17th 18th). I really feel like I have let my coach and more importantly myself down but I know I am not right and don’t want to bomb out or just be shit. I won’t train again this week and with Victoria going into a mini 5 day lockdown the gym is closed till Thursday next week.
Assuming lockdown finishes I can start training proper again from Mon 21st and this will be 8 weeks to comp. I am going to try and see a physio after lockdown and see if they can help. I will also spend the next week stretching and trying to massage my hip tightness away. Hopefully this mini break combined with a slow build up will get me back on track for April.

You don’t let people down by making the right call man. Seems like a smart decision to me.

I agree with @dagill2 - you made the right decision about the meet. Heal up so you can crush the future competition!

I get the disappointment, but your health and well being are more important than the date of your meet. Hopefully the time off will do you well.

I would say you made the right call. Your training hasn’t been as good as usual* and you’re developing little nagging injuries.

*I don’t mean you’re slacking off. Your feedback about your sessions has shown a downward trend in terms of how you feel.

Being flexible is the key to long term health with this hobby.

Thanks guys. I know it’s the right thing to do but it still bums me out that I have to pull out. I am hoping this little re set and a different approach to training will help. Have been talking to coach and we have a few ideas around training volume and managing recovery.
