What’s going on here? You never cramp up. What have you been doing differently?
That’s a back strain and a rare bad session in back to back weeks… With no meet, you could probably make a minor adjustment to stay healthy. I think one session is a fluke; two should catch your attention; and three is a clear indicator that something is off.
Don’t be stubborn in the next week. I’d say keep training as planned but don’t discount anything that feels off.
I run a big DC for a major retailer in Aus. We run 2 shifts with 150+ people on each shift. So I have the potential to interact with 300 each day. I try to spend some of my day down on the floor saying g’day to the team (doing this less given the situation). Because of the almost daily changes from the company and the government here regarding restrictions and rules I have been holding team talks with small groups 3 days a week. I may not interact with them all daily but the potential for a question to get to me via one of my team managers, a safety rep or a union delegate is still there. I prefer to abreast of what they are seeing.
It’s not that uncommon for me to cramp but it hasn’t happened for a while. The back from heavy deadlifts has happened before the last time I went heavy. I just put it down to fatigue which caused form to breakdown and I pulled too much with my lower back.
The soreness in the legs this week was caused by the heavy squat and Bulgarians in the last session. I’m using the bar now which changes the movement (no dumbells heavy enough at home). I did 3 higher rep sets with little rest to get my assistance work done quickly. This was a mistake and caused major Doms in areas I don’t usually feel it. The plus side is the body will adapt and get stronger.

I am hearing you mate. I need to try and stay visible and calm for the team but I also want to limit my contact. Not easy to do. I am practicing good social distancing and washing and santising my hands all day long ![]()

So body is feeling pretty good today. Legs still have some doms but way better than I expected. 2 days of rest now and then deadlifts on Monday.

That honestly sounds like my idea of hell. 300 versions of small talk, 300 people to remember names and minor details for. This is the reason I left my previous company.
It’s not easy but it is a major part of the job. If all my managers to their jobs I don’t have too much to actually do. So remembering some names and that someone’s kid plays cricket or sings or that they have just been on holiday isn’t a hardship.
I just really struggle when teams get over about 30. I start finding myself getting too bogged down in remembering the details of everyones lives and not enough time doing the stuff I’m actually paid to do.
Nice family day today. Went for a walk with the wife and kids but the ocean this morning just to get outside. Then stated meal prep for my lunches and meal prep for today’s Sunday roast lamb and for dinners through the week.
I made my usual big pot of chilli for my lunches this week. I used the first ripe chilli off my new plant in the garden. It is a ghost chilli so packs a bit of a punch. I only used one chilli and boy is it hot. Think this one might be a double burner !!
