Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries (Part 1)

The volume isn’t high, yes. The intensity has increased though, as @mortdk already pointed out. Plus the frequency is higher, so your shoulder doesn’t get as much recovery time.

I certainly wasn’t discounting the advice (it may have come across like that). It is more that to me whilst the frequency is up (3 days instead of 2) the volume and intensity hasn’t actually felt that hard. The weights have been going up but t just hasn’t felt that hard. Nothing has been near failure, no amrap or forced reps or drop sets. Just slow progression. Heck I don’t even have a spotter on my heavy days because I know I will get all the reps with some in the tank.
I guess my muscles are growing or at least getting stronger hence the work feels easy-ish. But the tendons are not improving at the same rate.

I get you so just go see the physio, it might just be something easy to fix.

Hard is on muscles. Joints get niggles or like ninja injuries that come out of nowhere.

I don’t think the tendons and ligaments care of the weight is heavy or the work feels hard. They just get mad because they’re being used.

The reason I’ve never benched three plates is because of biceps tendonitis. I’d build up my bench and then have to quit completely for months because the pain got too bad. It’d go away and is start the cycle over.

I don’t want to see that happen to you. Your coach is good and I think he could structure your plan for progress and joint health.

When mine is flared up I find massage to be quite helpful. I go to a medical massage place where they specifically target your “hot spots”. Super painful but I’m the long run guide helpful

Ok another update. Shoulder feels good today. It’s still a little sore if I poke it but that’s about it. I have booked to see the physio tomorrow afternoon.
I will still do some very light bench tonight and will focus on the technique and movement and assess where the tightness or pain points are.
Hopefully tomorrow I’ll at least get a proper idea of what the actual problem are is and some plan to fix it or at least manage it.

Solid squats, and you also appear to have the legs and calves to go with them. I keep my scrawny chicken legs no matter what I do.

Lol I am not the tallest and have pretty short legs so I think that helps. I saw a photo on myself from about 4 Years ago before I started lifting weights again and I have added a lot of size in 4 years. Probably a decent amount of fat too :joy::joy:

Well, you are primarily aiming at getting stronger, no? A decent amount of fat helps in that regard.

I’m a shorty as well, but for whatever reason my weight in terms of both fat and muscle tends to coalesce around my torso, leaving me with sad little stick legs and arms. Like a potato man with toothpick limbs.

Yes strength is the only goal right now. Frequency has been the best thing for adding size to my legs. Squatting three days a week has really helped.

Looking solid man. I’m always impressed at how (seemingly) effortless your lifts always appear. I don’t remember ever seeing you strain.

Thanks mate. I have been known to grind a bit every now and then😜(that emoji feels weird !!)
This current programming seems to be just right in terms for the weight and reps that I am getting stronger without getting near failure. It’s like black magic !!

I hope to learn this magic.
