Love it, I shall be sure to ask the coach that one.
Depends. You want to bomb or set a total?
Set a bomb total?
Good news man, love to see people working towards challenges like this. And succeeding, obviously, as I’m sure you will.
Great stuff Simo looking forward.
I’ll bet your coach will be happy to work toward that goal.
Yer coach is pretty chilled and will work around what ever I want onto do. He is pretty happy I am doing a novice comp and keen for me to continue and do a comp proper next year. It’s all baby steps at the moment. Plan is still to slowly get stronger and just see what happens. I know I can do a lot more than I am doing now but I’m not in a race to get there.
In that case, no Murph
Where’s the comp at Simo?
Great work for having a crack mate. Do you need a soft suit?
Its a novice comp belt at Iron Revolution gym in Melbourne. You don’t have to wear a soft suit, so I hadn’t really thought about it. Did notice one for sale in FB the other day but figured why spend the cash if I don’t have to.
What is the idea of the suit ? Just comfort?
Fuck no.
Makes judging a lot easier. Depth for squats, butt contact for bench.
I was being a little sarcastic there, guess that’s hard to read in text.
haha made me smile Simo.
Been a while since I’ve been on here. I assume this is your first comp? I would say get some practice in with commands. Most new competitors miss a lift due to commands. Hell I jumped the press command on my opener like 2-3 years ago totaling 1500. As for final lifts it depends on the person. I like to hit somewhere between my opener and second attempt. Deadlift about 10 days out, squat 4-5 days out and bench about 2-3 days out. Trying to make it move as fast as possible. Also don’t worry about cutting weight for the meet, not much point for a beginning competitor.
Thanks man some great advice here. It will be my first comp, I am doing a PL workshop at the same gym that is holding the comp in 2 weeks and part of that will be going through lifts and commands which will be good. I assume by final lifts you are referring to the last lift in your peak/prep.
Yes final heavy lifts before the meet. Good luck
Thanks Mate. You’ve been MIA for a while, is everything going ok?
Yep, as Vince above said, practice the commands, the bench command can feel like an eternity!
I got pinned to the bench with 110kg due to going to Press too early and fucking the whole thing up. Practice all lifts with whatever your allowed to use, wrist wraps, knee wraps, belt.
Are you in a mono for squat or walking it out? Get the soft suit anyway, it then looks like you mean business ![]()
I believe it is in a mono so not walked out. Hopefully ill find out more in a couple of weeks time and get to use the mono so I can see how it feels.
Some nice looking squats there buddy.
Congrats on signing up for the comp, I am sure you will have a ton of fun and learn a lot!
Yea, still lifting but life is happening. Swamped at work, doing stuff to my house. Still hitting the gym with a slightly new goal. I’m going to get up to about 205 to cut to 198. Sitting at 194 right now. Squatted 440x12 yesterday, pulled 700x5 and benched close grip 360x1 and 330x3 all recently.
