I picked up a little pressie for myself on gumtree today. Always good to get a bargain.
nice
@mortdk and @MarkKO I am so happy. Was literally online on the titan website the day before deciding on what belt to purchase. Titans run between $170 and $230 and I picked this up for $50. It was exactly the right size and even my preferred colour !!
That is a fucking steal. Nice work
Yer now I just have to work out how best to wear it, to get the most out of it. Any tips ??
You might need it different for squats and deads. Looser, tighter, higher, lower, etc. It depends how it feels most supportive. That takes a while to figure out. Definitely wear it earlier than later when you’re learning it.
Yeah cracker deal Simmo👍
As Mark said above, take some time to learn it, I personally don’t like mine too tight, especially for dead’s.
Thanks @I_Luc. I am thinking I’ll wear it for the medium and heavy squats. I’ll keep it off for the light day as I do like doing some squats beltless. I’ll wear it for deadlifts to get used to it.
What’s your thoughts on wearing a belt for bench? Does it help much ? I’ve never Work one for bench.
@MarkKO (and anyone else) feel free to chime in here.
Never worn one for bench, don’t see the point, I only chuck my belt on over 180kg for squats and deads.
Just try it out on various holes, make sure to try it higher and lower too, some people wear it high, others lower, just need to experiment.
The only things that matter are 1) you can press into it when you brace to get even tighter and 2) it doesn’t interfere with your movement.
I wear it higher on deadlifts because I hinge more at the hips and it pinches me if I don’t.
So I have woken up all snotty and am starting to get a cold. Head filling up through the day to the point my eyes are hurting now !! No training today but do have it tomorrow and Friday. Looks like it could be a tough couple of days. will try to use my jedi mind trick and tell myself i am well and not sick !!
Ah, I must be catchy, it seems everyone I know has caught this shit, sorry mate
Squats will cure it
Remember the man flu is real, women don’t catch it, they get a little girly sniffle.
Lol thanks for sharing man. I have bench and squats tomorrow night so they should kick it in the arse
That was a steal Simo, congrats.
I like my belt a little higher on DL and a little looser as well.
When squatting the first set or two with belt is a little loose and then I tighten it up on the real all out set.
But as everyone have been saying try it out.
@MarkKO I had a chat with the coach last night and he pointed out a few things, thought you might be interested:
- As I get fatigued I lose position in my upper back, my elbows come up and this effects the position. (pretty much what you noticed about my upper body not being tight enough).
- Stance is pretty wide and bar is high (on top of traps). He wants me to try to narrow the stance a little (1 inch either side) and bring the bar a little lower on the back. He thinks this will help with leverages. He also thinks having the bar a little lower may help with number 1. in that it will force me to remain tighter in the upper back and keep my elbows down.
- He also called out me cranking my head back and not keeping my chin down but we all know that one and its still a work in progress for me.
He linked me a couple of technique vids to watch so will watch them over and over and start trying out some minor changes.
That sounds pretty much spot on. I’m not sure about the stance width, since narrower tends to be less a sitting back squat but there’s no harm in trying. You could always try one change first, then another to see how they each impact.
I was thinking this too. I’m going to try the lower bar position tonight and see how that effects everything first.
Good call. It may automatically make you sit back more as well.
Thats the plan, I think it will also make me angle the back slightly more (less upright) so the hips can drive up.
Lower bar position works a treat mate, you will not go back. I Also find hand placement plays a part in automatic back tightness, too close is plain uncomfortable, a little wider keeps everything snug ![]()
