Silly Yoga Rant

yeah, the phemomenon is global.

it TOTALLY is cheesy. but… um… it really does help if you work a bit hard…

realized today it is mostly about the hip openers for me. freeing the legs from the lumbar spine. they do a whole bunch of spinal twists which i’m not so keen on (though the idea is to twist at the hips / thoracic rather than the lumbar though the instructors vary in their understanding of this issue) but i just realized that you sit in this hip opening posture when you do your twists…

kinda like how i used to get this good but strangely disconcerting wrenching feeling from prying in goblet squats…

i reckon the bodybalance class is worth a bit of a go for lifters. mobility. flexibility, yeah. just realized i don’t actually stretch when left to myself… just do my rolling…

bodypump makes me angry, though. not that i’ve ever done it… i guess i should have a go one day… don’t much feel like doing a bajillion quarter squats, though…

i guess like most things the value depends greatly on the competence of the instructor…

though…

that is one of the components that the classes try and eliminate / minimize.

the moves are choreographed by someone who does know some stuff (PhD’s usually). the programs are reasonably well balanced (e.g., between pushing and pulling, between abs and lower back). you move to the music so even if the particular instructor is totally incompetent you still can get a pretty good class in.

so kinda like macca’s… you know what you are getting in your fitness class no matter where in the world you may be.
