They can’t possibly be resting between sets, no, they must be creating a sick 14-year long playlist on the bench that you don’t own.
Why not ask to work in with people, rather than rant online?

yeah I think the real culprit is people hogging equipment when they clearly aren’t really using it.
Once I asked to work in with an elder woman and she answered with a very firm no. I was a bit shocked and angry. Maybe in my egoistic vision, an older woman using 15 kgs on a machine during her garbage volume-filled 15 secs rest period for everything program deserved the machine less than me.
Yup.
I was doing legs a week or two ago. I was going to finish up with the only reverse hyperextension machine in the gym. A couple walk over 30 seconds before I get to it and throw all their water bottles, phones, ect. on top of the machine. I ask if they’re actually using the machine. The woman says yes and proceeds to lean on it so she can do band “leg extensions” (3 inch range of motion with a glorified rubber band). There was a nice railing about 3 feet away that could have served the same purpose. Being the nice guy, I said “I guess I’ll have to work in with you” and dropped my sweaty 300 lbs on the machine the second she finished her set. We alternated 3 rounds while she shot me death looks at every opportunity.
It’s too bad people are so ignorant. I try to be aware of when I’m hogging the only piece of equipment for certain things. I like to do OHP from a rack but I can suck it up and clean the first rep if I’m going to be on the last available rack. You can only squat in a squat/power rack.
Hold my beer.
Actually, I can squat a somewhat difficult weight without a rack because my squat is weak and my power clean is (was) good.
I didn’t have a rack when I first started working out at home, so I would set my bar up on two chairs and wiggle my way under it to front squat bottoms-up style. Made my squatting mobility excellent.
Where there’s a will, there’s a way!
