Hey everyone, i have been slowly been losing weight at about 1.5lbs per week for a few weeks, but this morning my weight plummeted over 2 lbs down in 2 days (i had almost Zero carbs yesterday as i don’t train on Sunday so im assuming a lot of that is water).
The weird thing is that when i woke up this morning i started gagging and dry heaving and felt like i was going to throw up, but there was nothing in my stomach, once i stopped dry heaving, i had breakfast, which was some poached eggs, with an whole grain english muffin and some back bacon with some milk.
i felt fine when i was eating and the dry heaving hasn’t come back, but i have also experienced this in the past when shedding a few pounds, could I be loosing a little to fast which is causing my body to react poorly?
Something in the back of my head is telling me that I read somewhere (read: anecdote) that something along those lines is not a good thing in the long term, assuming no stomach bug or other sickness.
I think there may be some benefit to a ‘refeed’ or maybe just a higher intake day with more carbs than usual, but I’m hoping someone who experienced this can elucidate this anecdote.
im thinking about doing a day or two at maintenance or slightly above maintenance and seeing if it stops and then start dieting again, that wouldn’t be a big deal as im a few pounds ahead of schedule anyway.

Still, i would like to know what happening to me…
thanks[/quote]
What is your carb intake like, and would you consider yourself ‘carb tolerant’?
I ask this since in the past few months, there have been a lot of posts relating dieting to sickness, but many of them seem to be clearing up with a higher carb intake.
Never worked for me, but I’m pretty intolerant of carbs.

ya i would consider myself pretty carb tolerant, before i started cutting i leaned up significantly for a few months with no change in body weight by just training hard and eating a ballanced diet full of good carbs at 4 out of 5-6 meals.
i upped my carb content yesterday and my weight is back up to where i would like it to be at this point, and my stomach feels a bit better this morning. had a big breakfast again and plan on staying at maintanince for a few days before droping another 1-1.5 lbs next week.
yea i would dedicate 1 day a week to carb reloading, so you can replenish your glycogen/carb storage…i remember i did the Get Shredded Diet by Dave Tate and i felt like shit by the end of each week…so on Sunday i would allow myself double the carbs for just that one day and wow, what a difference…i continued to lose weight consistently and it made the diet more tolerable, so i would definitely try it if i were you…just my opinion…
Relase of toxins into your bloodstream. Fat cells are major toxic waste dumbs. Look up birds, migration, and DDT. Same principle applies to people.
Best thing is some Superfood or other phytonutrient rich drink/pills before bed and in the a.m.
One thing people who advocate a “dirty bulk” ignore is the chemicals, pesticides, and other toxins that are going to store in your fat. Eventually that is going to be released into your bloodstream. Thus, nausea.
1.5 -2 lbs is a bit too much man, I’d say you’re probably shitting out a 50/50 ratio of fat and muscle mass. I would up your cals til your only losing 1 lb per week. Don’t be afraid of carbs either man.
Im down from 252 to 230 and im having PLENTY of carbs.
thanks for all the help and advice. i have talked to my coach as well, and as cutting weight is getting more and more difficult and stressful each time, and considering im still 20 years old and theirs no reason to hold back strength gains, that my next competition will be my last in the 94kg (207 class) and that i will begin lifting as a 105kg (231 lbs) athlete.
Im just going to let im happen naturally and VERY slowly to make sure that as much of it as possible is solid muscle. im looking forward to not having to cut a lot for a few years

sorry to res-erect this thread, but im still feeling alot of the same even though i have been at maintainance for the last few days, today im going to try and cut out the l-carnitine to see if that makes a difference, i seem to be suffering from low blood sugar like symptom in the morning even when i have 6 meals a day and have a casien shake with some broccoli before bed to try and keep my blood sugar more even. I also seem to sweat ALOT more then normal.
Any more thoughts on whats going on with me?
P.S. i have 2 more weeks until this competition then I can start eating big again and im sure all this bullshit will disappear once im back up to my training weight.
I recently felt a bit sick during dieting as well, I remembered this thread, but most specifically California Law’s comment about toxin release.
I upped my fat intake (went over calories, but oh well) and have some shots of oils between meals in hopes that the fat flowing the my blood stream will ‘catch’ some of my toxins (if they are the problem) and bring them out of my body.
There has been a small improvement. Not enough to rule out the placebo effect, but enough to relieve some sickness.
I also have some sickness during dieting (currently).
First time it happened when I tried my first zero carb day, and after I’ve eaten apple before practice (around 6pm) I got nauseated and had a gagging feeling. That friday I had a mayor reefed, a lot of carbs and calories. Second time it happened while on classes (I bring my food along with me). I got really nauseated, but it passed quickly, hasn’t happened since. I eat regualary every 3 hours, with fruit in between. I uped my carbs (oatmeal and apples) and a bit calories and I’m feeling better. Also, I’ve been losing around 2lbs per week since New Year’s, but I am on pause this week regarding the sickness. I decided to eat a lot more fruit and a bit more nuts, with more vegies, so if it’s the toxins it will correct it too. (I’m left with only the hardcore fat that has been on me for 10 years, the recent and more healthy fat got off with no problem)
