Thanks everybody.

I just realized in that last pic I look like I’m trying to take a shit…

I don’t think that’s gonna last long as an avatar…

You probably DO need to take a shit, considering how much you’re eating!

Great progress. Looks like your program is working.

What prison camp did they let you out of 2 years ago ?

Just stopping by to say hello!

You are getting some awesome feedback for your lifts…

OUTSTANDING WORK!!

Btw- I think I’ve stalked you in another post with this question, but what part of Maine are you in?

We lived in Brunswick for 4 years, and just moved down here last year…I LOVE love LOVE Maine, and we probably make it our home one day, once the hubby is done with this NAVY job of his :stuck_out_tongue: We had plans of staying(permanently) when we moved up there, but they decided to close that base down…bummer.

Keep up the hard work!

Hey MMM!

Thanks! Hey, I’ve seen your log, you’re doing well yourself!

I live near Augusta. We go to Brunswick a bunch. Good restaurants near the college, plus Sea Dog brewery is right there in Topsham

math, bunny, kmc - thanks dudes!

Damn, dude, you’re lucky that mirror didn’t break under the pressure waves when you flexed!

I had almost forgotten how to flex the ol’ guns.

Squats

Shitty day today! Felt like shit, squatted like shit, felt like shit.

Plus, I just wanna keep typing “shit”… shit, shit, shitty shit, poo.

Had camera issues, belt issues, knee sleeve issues, attitude issues…

  • w/u, foam, other shit.
  • 135x6
    3x3
    245x3
305x1.5 (belt, plus I came forward)
    345x1 (belt)
    345x1 (f*cking belt)
    345x3 Shitty
    - YouTube

The only redeeming quality of those squats was that I was very conscious about pushing my elbows forward a la Coach Meat. That saved me in the 245x3 set. Caught myself letting my knees cave and tried to correct that in real time, too…

Zercher Squats
135x5
185x5
225x3

Calf raises in LP:
5pps x 15
6pps x 12

More foam. Done.

Shit!

squat form has really improved bro.

i would do the zerchers off the bottom of the rack like you did for the first rep. in my opinion, you are going too low with them. the level of the rack is perfect. i would bring it down to the rack, pause on the pins for a second and then up again.

looks good.

Why is it too low? I like Zerchers mostly because I think they’re cool. What do you see them as assisting?

once you go too far past parallel you lose a ton of your leverage and the ass end will roll in thus rounding the lower back. a good example of this is when doing the leg press and you try to bring the weight all the way down. to get do this, most people have to round the lower back to do it.

now there are a few people that can go ATG safely, but not many… i’m not one of them.

as for what they assist. zerchers kick ass. they will bullet proof the core (i hate that word). since the weight is already in front of you, you have to fight the entire time to keep upright. therefore, when you go back to back squats, you should find it easier to remain upright.

they also teach you to push the hips through… or at least that is how you should complete the lift. i also, really like how they compliment the sumo lift. when i do zerchers i like to perform them off pins. i initiate the zercher by pushing out on my knees then finish by forcing the hips through- exactly what you should do in a sumo.

I actually did start on the pins
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axADA_C1V9c (I didn’t post this originally)

I didn’t think I was getting to parallel, but I could probably arch a little more to bring the bar up to give me another inch or two of descent.

I feel these buggers EVERY time in my abs (back and legs, too). In fact, that first set at 185, my abs were cranking (you can see me rub my stomach). I really like these and used them early in my back rehab because they were the closest thing to a dumbbell squat (goblet squat). Mr. Meat is right that it’s a great sumo accessory, as I really felt my hips with the wider stance.

RE: ATG – here’s my squat warmup at a different angle (I spent a lot of time trying to find the best camera angle and where no one would kick the camera).

Anyway, I think I have a touch of ‘butt wink’ when I’m down (later reps). I don’t know if it’s more than normal, but I never really noticed it until I started with the vids. Thoughts? (ie thoughts besides I have a monsterously large ass).

Coach Meat-- thanks again for your valuable input. Much to think about.

form on both vids looked really good.

but…

don’t pat yourself on the back yet:) form should be perfect with light weight. The real sign that you have mastered your form is when you can make heavy weight look light. you definitely know what you need to do. the hard thing is remembering it all and doing it when your body wants to fold over under the heavy shit.

for the zercher’s, take your stance out a bit and turn your toes out just a little more. this will put you in a lower position and be a good middle of the road for assisting the squat and the sumo.

i would also look into doing the touch and go zerchers like you are doing but also throw in some where you unload on the pins after every rep. this eliminates some of the stretch reflex, teaches you to stay tight in the bottom and forces you to keep the form perfect.

happy to help bro. you’ve made great progress. now we just have to bring you over to the Darkside.
