I don’t know how you do it. Thats 2 awesome dogs in a row. Adorable doesn’t quite describe that.

Ha, yes and no. Louie is THE BEST. But also a complete nightmare. I’ve taken to calling him “Hellen Keller,” because while he’s making a lot of progress in certain regards, he’s completely lacking in boundaries and is all but deaf. He’s like an extra-energetic 10 month old lab with separation anxiety or a strong, muscular Tigger, just bouncing bouncing bouncing all over you.
HOWEVER, as he learns more about communication he’s giving me the head tilt more often. He knows I’m telling him things, he’s gotten that far, but what things?? So he head-tilts. And it slays me. I’m not sure whether the head tilt surpasses the lip-stuck-on-teeth, which was a frequent look for Buttons when people snuck into the house while she was sleeping and it confused her, which also kills me dead, but if not, it’s a close second. The teeth/lip issue generally includes a slight head tilt, so it may win. But Louie’s forehead crinkles with the head tilt, which…man, is he cute.
When we first got him it was acknowledged by one and all that I have a special talent for recognizing good dogs when I look into their Petfinder photo eyes, but now there’s a growing consensus that I should be looking at their ears as well, as this makes two very good dogs who are deaf and untrainable but also old and very sweet and lovable.
Not my dogs, but for the viewing pleasure of the thread:
He’s pretty. I like his eyes.
Sorry. Handsome.
He doesn’t mind what you call him as long as you have treats when you do it.
As soon as I got home he gave me the “oh I need treats, I’m withering!” meow.
We rarely find Louie in the basket anymore, but when he first got here he’d wait for us there all day. It was heartbreaking. Now on work days I usually find him in his bed at the end of the day, or sometimes the couch. If we’re going to be out late we put blankets in this area for him, but generally speaking don’t bother much about it anymore. This pic was taken during our village’s “old home day” a couple of weeks ago, which consists of a parade that goes from the corner we live on to three doors down, maybe 2/10 of a mile, then turns to go to the church’s parking lot, where the rest of the party is. There’s a DJ for the parade and people line the small bit of street. Dogs are not allowed at the party, but as this is our yard, Louie was there for the parade, as were other dogs. There was a baby sitting across the street, maybe 18 months, who kept coming over with his dad to pet Louie. It was maybe the best morning of Louie’s life. A parade! At our house! With babies and dogs and everything!
Afterward, we took Louie back to the house to go over to the party part because we had kids with us. And this is how we found him when we got back. Poor kid.
It’s 31° here this morning, which means that it’s going to snow soon. I can’t wait to introduce Louie to snow. He’s going to be so surprised!
That was the first day we moved to Indiana from Corpus Christi, TX. They were so excited.
Side note: The Real Feel temp hit 105 this week in Houston.
It’s been about 10 days since we picked up this little dude. I present to you Luigi: the companion to our boxer Toadette, after the passing of Kirby and Yoshi. We’re keeping the theme going.
Adorable!!! I smell this pic. ![]()
( hug him and squeeze him)
Looks like a very cozy couch for everyone!
