Oh man. That must have been terribly difficult.
The hardest choice you ever have to make…sorry for your loss
Oh no! I’m so sorry! And he’s absolutely beautiful.
Are you familiar with Albert Payson Terhune, who wrote about collies?
Albert Payson Terhune (1872-1942) was an American author, dog breeder, and journalist. The public knows him best for his novels relating the adventures of his beloved collies and as a breeder at his Sunnybank Kennels, the lines of which still exist in today’s collies.
My grandmother gave me two of his books when I was little - Lad: A Dog and Lochinvar Luck. I read them over and over again, mostly because my parents insisted I survive on library books and I ran through them very quickly, so I had to reread the few I owned a lot. Anyway, the best collie books! Coincidentally, I just ordered Lochinvar Luck, which cost me ridiculous because it’s not one of his more popular ones. But get this: it’s about a guy who orders a supposedly purebred puppy, but when the puppy arrives on the train he’s scraggly and runty. The guy who bought him gets mad at getting a crap puppy and…I can’t remember, yells maybe…anyway, the puppy gets scared and runs off into the woods and MOTHER NATURE HERSELF builds the puppy into a champion. She deepens his chest and thickens his fur and sharpens his eyesight and broadens his chest and so on. And then a really good guy (Scottish) finds him and happens to be a Dog Guy and…anyway, one of my top 10 or 20 childhood books.
Lad is outstanding, too. All of them. My kids liked them as well. Lad had eyes with a soul 'back of them. Fleet of food, keen of sight - a good, good dog.
It’s been a dog week at my house. My daughter’s 11yo dog died suddenly Monday morning. Lotta tears. Then one of my clients on Wednesday reported the loss of her 13yo dog. More tears.
I’m so sorry for your family.
Beutiful dog… sorry to hear.
Sorry to hear man. Putting a pet down is one of the hardest things you can do. They are family.
Sorry man. That’s tough. He was beautiful.
Haha, he looks bitter. Great pic.
