Should I Get a Dog?

I think Natural Nate’s point is that he regards his cat as a member of the family, and if something killed it - a dog, a person, whatever - he would go after it. Nowhere did he say that he would be able to justify it to the police, adn he isnt saying it like he’s a tough guy, he said, if he thought he wouldnt be able to take it, then he’d shoot it.

If you disagree about whether he should consider his pet a member of the family, that’s one thing, but given that he does, how many of you would react differently if it were your family member?

And if I caught someone in my backyard trying to kill my dog, I’d shoot them.

The only reason people think a dog could take down a human is because the dog always attacks aggressively and the human tries to defend himself and run away. But if you put a dog against an adult male human that knew a little about fighting and was INTENT on WINNING the fight . . . you’ve got yourself one dead dog.

Riiiiight! That’s why the police use dogs to take down criminals; because they don’t know what to do when a guy has a blade. Get a clue!

Are you saying the Chow would chow the cat…?
Actually, they don’t eat it if they are well fed. They just break its neck and then throw it around like a chew toy!

I think us dog lovers here all understand Nate’s position. But the problem is that his cat has no business in someone else’s fenced back yard. That is not his property. So he has to take some responsibility for his pet. I don’t like to have any pet killed, but if the owner cannot be responsible enough to watch out for the pet they should not have a pet.

Who are all these neighbors who own police dogs? Do all the people on my street own specially-trained attack dogs and I just don’t know it? Do all people when they get a dog train the thing to karate-chop a knife away from a human?

Another gratuitous shot of my son…

Mys sister has a Boxer, purebred. They tend to be on the dumb side. However they are extremely loyal and MASSIVE attention whores! You think your Border was a “child” wait til you get a Boxer.

Good Owners, Great Dogs by Brian Kilcommons is a book I recommend to anyone thinking of getting a dog.

I’ve looked into this because they’re my favorite dog, and everything I’ve read indicates that they are very intelligent.

Why do you spread lies?

No one likes you.

HAAAAAAAAAAA! Nice PM!

I should have put dumb as dumb. They are stubborn which leads people to believe they’re really dumb. However, when you see that face that is so ugly its cute and it walks in the path of your car and stands there even while you’re yelling and beeping your horn, its REALLY difficult to not think Boxers are dumb not dumb.

Wouldn’t happen if the stupid cat didn’t go into private property. The owners should keep them in the house not running around ruining shit such as my car’s paint, trash, patio furniture.

Amen brother!

If you have an animal you better damn well keep it off of other people property or live with the consequences.
I’ll second that Amen! If you have an “outside cat”, you are not a pet owner; you feed a wild animal that knows where to go to get its food. It is irresponsible at best and criminally negligent at worst. Imagine if a human came skulking around your house and did all of the damage GaMeOvEr305 described (all of which has happened to my property as a result of neighborhood cats). You’d want the person to pay some kind of penalty, wouldn’t you? Lotsa luck finding out who a cat’s owner is, though.

Bottom line: Let your clawed, furry, pissing and shitting machine stink up your own house and destroy your own belongings. YOU chose to own a cat, not your neighbors, so act like a responsible owner and keep the damn thing in your house!

Oh, and threatening my dogs makes me angry… You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry…

my pit, chief.

Let me add to this. Not only is your cat which you let roam around destroying my shit, but they are multiplying like rabbits. I swear once you have a few stray cats in your block a few months down the line, your block becomes a cat ranch.

The cat problem isn’t as easy to deal with than a stray dog, either. Anyone ever try to catch a stray cat?

Look if you like cats great. Just keep them in your house. I have no problems with the little buggers.

Sometimes you wonder if they should have a hunting season for cats like they do for deer. You know population control.

I’ll just let my dogs roam the neighborhood for few days off the leash and that should decrease the stray cat population significantly.
