^ Matty PM me if you want more info. My daughter was 13 years old when we put her on Accutane, this was with a dermatologist. In the state of Texas only certain Drs have the power to prescribe this med. My daughter did fine and we monitored her liver enzymes etc. It cured her acne, was not aware of any mental issues and this is my daughter that has now had a child with no problems. Just my experience.
Thanks DJ I will.

This thread has provided me with some great info and first hand accounts of accutane. My wife and I were considering it for my stepson who is 21 and is suffering from moderate acne. At this point I do not see the positives outweighing the negatives espescially considering my stepsons mental makeup.

Don’t know your stepson, obviously, but there are some people who believe that the depression and other mental issues associated with accutane may actually be more related to the fact that, in general, people on the drug have bad acne, and have had it for a while. I don’t know if you ever had serious acne (I’m positive some of the people vehemently telling the OP to just wait two or three years never have) but it can be really tough. I don’t know if he has other issues or what, just something to think about. I am a TOTALLY different person since taking the drug.
I wonder what kind of dosage people were on that “resulted” in their subsequent GI tract issues.
From what I’ve seen, most people who took the low(er)-dose approach experienced positive effects with nothing more worrisome than chapped lips/dry skin.

Interesting I have never really correlated the two but it certainly makes alot of sense. Im gonna have my wife take a look at this thread it should really giver her insight as well.
And to think, so many people complaining about how the threads have been going in the shitter, well this thread is a shining example of how it isnt.

i suffer from ulcerative colitis, after reading this thread i did some googling about the link between accutane and colitis.
I’m finally in a decent place with my colitis but fuck there was a 2 year period where life was hell.
fyi i developed colitis around the time i got off accutane
You should do some research, theres a whole bunch of class action lawsuits against the makers of accutane. If you got ulcerative colitis right after taking accutane its probably a slam dunk that you are entitled to a decent bit of money.
waiting to see what happens with the cases in america first(australian)
Ok heres an update.
-Still not on accutane
-Got off of the antibiotics
-Ive been visiting a spa type of thing with minimal results
-My Dad was opposed to me going on accutane so hes the reason for the spa treatments
-Ive been doing the spa thing for probably 2 months now.
-Im frustrated now and want to go on accutane again
-Im sure I could persuade my Dad so that I can go on accutane
My main concern is something somewhat silly: Will my lips get so dry that I wont be able to make out with girls? Lol. Prom is in 5 months and Id like to at least be able to kiss my date.
accutane pretty much gave me crohn’s disease. I have no proof of this but you can do your own research into the link between the two. I should also mention i suffered chronic depression for about 4 years after taking it, the depression started about two months into the accutaine protocol.
One the other hand it cured my acne %100. and mine was way worse than what you have.
there is no way in hell i would do it again.

My acne isn’t all that bad and I only weigh 170, so I’m assuming they wouldn’t put me on that high of a dose. If I do decide to take it, I will definitely request a low dose.
I’ve heard acne gets worse before it gets better on accutane. Can anyone who has taken the drug describe how much worse it got while on accutane?
to answer that question, my acne stayed exactly the same while i was on it, but i looked way worse due to the dry skin cracked lips etc… all my acne literally cleared up two days after my last dose and never came back. But i still wouldn’t reccommend it.

Your lips will very likely chap up on Accutane, but the severity will be dependent on the dose.
At 40mg/day, mine were noticeably chapped, but not particularly bothersome except during the wintertime… and I was pretty damn lazy with the Chapstick.
If you don’t get stuck on a high dose and make sure to protect your lips, I wouldn’t think it would be so bad that you can’t make out with someone. And, if you are worried, get the bitch drunk first.
I did it and ramped up to a 40mg/day dose slowly. My lips chapped up and it was right when I started dating a girl. She noticed my lips and bought me chapstick.
It wouldn’t have bothered me otherwise, but they were chapped and flaky but not bleeding.
Worst part was the red eyes when I started, but it didn’t last long.
you can always go with antibiotics and dermalogica thats what i did, I had it pretty bad till i was 21

If you’re still interested, then look into the low-dose options like I already mentioned:
Alternatively, if it’s a puberty thing it may pass. If it’s not, it may be down to sensitivity to certain foods (wheat, corn, milk…) and/or lack of essential fats and vitamins.
Perhaps try:
Low-dose aspirin for the rosacea,
Zinc picolinate and topical pyrithione zinc cleanser (e.g., Dr Bailey’s Only the Best) for the acne and folliculitis and seb derm,
Cod liver oil with its EFAs and Vit A and D for the acne and reducing oil.
I thought accutane was taken off the market? I was on it during high school and had all the bad mental side effects that they warned about and personally would not recommend it. I still have acne on occasion but I’ve realized it’s much more related to diet than anything. Soon as I got rid of gluten my acne cleared up within a week.
Hi OP,
I would first listen to Alexus and clean up your diet. Your on a bodybuilding site, so I assume you lift heavy ass weight, so you should be paying attention to you diet anyway.
My acne was similar to yours, and it was very persistant and antibiotics didnt work. So I was on put on accutane for 9 months. I remember the occasional dry lips and skin, but besides that I didnt suffer any other serious side effects. I remember my skin been more sensitive to the sun. The drug worked and now I look like Tom Cruise.
Goodluck buddy.

Tanning does wonders for your skin, your acne isn’t even that bad. Just use a scrubbing brush on your back in the shower to get rid of the white heads.
Also if you are lifting heavy while using accutane, you will need to be careful you don’t tear anything.
I started accutane about 8 months ago and I am 20 years old ( been lifting for 4 years)
These are all my personal results thus far, but I have to agree that if you don’t truly need accutane, stay away from it.
So far these are my side effects: MOST COMMON, very dry skin, chapped lips, dry nose (sometimes bloody), joint discomfort, fatigue.
In addition, I have had; Slight anger outbursts, lack of ambition (almost like a depressed state), frequent headaches, trouble with cognition and memory, and severe joint pain. With my joints, i messed myself up one week by going heavy on squats, and it played a huge toll on my knees and back. I have been told by my doctor not to perform in any vigorous exercise or activities till I am off the medication, although i still workout just at lower volumes. I am taking no supplements except for drinking water like a fish.
I have always been on 80mg day of “isotretinoin”, but for one month i was taking a dose of 120mg ( 1 pill for AM, 2 for PM). I have been taking accutane for 8 straight months now, as prescribed by my doctor, but it is DEFINITELY a serious drug.
The it has been working miraculously, the side effects can be ruthless. I have also heard that it decreases testosterone in the body, but I have no scientific facts to back it up except for personal opinion.
My strength has decreased, and my bones and joints feel weak. I have tried going on jogs, but it is too hard on my knees, and even stairs can often be hard.

How much do you weigh? Using an average of 30 days in a month that is almost 20,500 mg of accutane total. It should be 120-150 mg MAX per KG. So, unless you weigh more than 125 KG that is a big fucking dose.
I was an accutane and the only side effect I had was dry lips. Stared at 20 mg a day and worked up to a dose of 120 mg for about a month.
Dude, I had acne about like you, maybe not quite as bad, when I was in HS. I wanted some type of medication but Mom ordered me Proactive first and made me try it just like the instructions said for 2 months. It totally cleared up my acne after doing the 3 step thing twice a day. There was a marked improvement a couple weeks in and it steadily got better. After it got a lot better I did find that I could cut it down to once a day so that saved a little money.
Almost everyone I have heard that said proactive didn’t work, used it as instructed for like a week and then just kind of did their own thing with it. I would at least give something like that a try before I risked my health with Accutane.
