Shine on You Crazy Diamond

i still think we have an uncanny profile resemblance in the face, but i’ll try and get over it :-p

they looked pretty good. can tell when you start to get tired, though, the bar starts moving straight up from the floor instead of coming back - i think because it is hard to set your hips low when the plates aren’t set to height. at least, i find it harder to get and keep my hips down with little plates. you are pretty fast under the bar!

i don’t envy you Bulgarian squats at all! brutal!

Let this video serve as a reminder to me, I can fall down but I sure as hell better get back up.

Hey nlmain, thanks, had some really really good dives. I’m flippin shattered. Need a relaxing holiday, I think that’ll be the last diving holiday for the year unless its with a diving centre where they do all the work, worry about equipment, getting the stupid boat in during inconvenient tides, etc. 7 hours work a day for (2) 30 minutes dives, just ain’t right.
BUT had some amazing dives one after another, reefs and big boulders, viz was absolutely amazing, loads of fish, a couple more eels. Peeped into a few caves.

Had a couple of incidents on one dive but at least no equipment failure. Well I was slightly shaken up on one dive, but managed to at least keep my cool enough.
I did some of the exercises on other dives for the tests ok, but I tried one with a non-instructor dive buddy/leader which was a mistake. I usually have to work to descend as it is, so when I tried to do it without a mask, didn’t go so well. By the time I did get to the bottom I was seriously sucking some air. Then I find out my buddy/lead diver’s nickname is the redsetter because he just goes and goes and goes. If it would’ve just been a normal dive instead of the training part I probably would’ve been ok with him covering a lot of ground as the scenery was nice but…I was trying to catch my wind the whole way through.

Then when I showed him when I got down to 50 bar(which is in the red), I assumed he would start to ascend up. But no he held out a little longer, to go check out a cave. I then almost lost my weight belt, it came off, I had just about enough wits to hold onto it but forgot to deflate my bcd right away (ah well I won’t again), but managed to do it so I didn’t rise. Then when we actually got up to the surface we were in a bad spot for the boat to get to us, so we had to start finning to it. By the time I got to the boat, I was fucking tired. I was also surprised that he kind of got away with that sort of carry on. I heard from the pervious dive that he actually went ahead without his buddy who couldn’t find him for 3 minutes. Usually the senior members in my club don’t let anyone get away with that sort of thing. Not sure what makes this guy special.

Anyway I just had to get that out, in retrospect I should’ve just told him that I wanted to go up, no matter how nice the scenery was. I’m not doing any lifting today that’s for sure. Headache since Sunday night.

wow, that was awesome to watch. i really do think i’ve come around to finding athletic women really beautiful and non-athletic women to look weak in unattractive ways. it is amazing to me how effortless athletes make things look. shows how much women’s sport is still going to develop when people can get away with stuff like that! good on her.

patch2, thanks, yeah I’m still in moany & irritable land.

alexus, yeah I just didn’t know what I was doing that session. I just couldn’t ‘feel it’.

On that vid I’d say the adrenaline kicked in big time for her.

i certainly have days like that with the oly lifting. very frustrating! makes it all the more special, though, when things are feeling right.

Did a leg workout today and my ITB was absolutely fine. I warmed up a LOT.

Loved the vid - she wasn’t going to take it lying down, I suppose!

Nope that chick wasn’t going to take it lying down:

Anyway reminded me of a song I have not heard in awhile.

dive buddy sounded like a real douche.

glad you found some joy in it non the less. diving takes A LOT out of me too, kinda why I only plan a handful of dives a year.

I learned a good few lessons, like when to end a dive when you are not comfortable with your buddy.

Yeah, it does take alot. And I’ve got all these exercises to go through for the test still, also didn’t realise I have to also mentor a trainee after the I pass. I think I’m going to have less time for oly lifting until October, which I already knew that when I signed up for it. Anyway it’ll be good once I get it, then I can lead some dives.

Still have headache so nothing else to report, even my appetite is gone which is very very unusual.

hope you feel better soon :frowning:

My appetite disappears when I have a headache. I feel for you - I’ve had one off and on for a few weeks but it’s down to tension in the shoulders and neck. I hope you get rid of yours soon.

Thanks for the sympathy gals. Headache was going away but came back this morning, followed by cramps! No wonder I’ve been in a mood. A friend of mine does accupuncture, she said she could help me, still not sold on it but its free and I’ll try anything. Right now wouldn’t mind 1000 needles in my head if it would work, even if its because of placebo effect.

I’m really not sure about posting anything about food on here, might even cut down on the posting on my log until I get back into the oly swing again. Argh just in a bad mood.

Oh god are we synchronising? Mine started today too (plus headache, argh).

Hey Cal, yeah synchronicity at its finiest. As well as I’m not sleeping properly like some other gals here, didn’t know this stuff was contagious over the net.

I started to write a big long post but it just sounded like whining. To sum it up I have not been feeling well, something going on with respiratory system and sinuses (but I’m not sick sick, just can’t breathe & have gawd awful headaches), and I’ve been walking around like a zombie. I nearly fainted in a store on Sat. I guess I’ll have to suck it up by tomorrow and perhaps go to the doctor. My paranoid ass is worried about my sinuses and being able to dive, ever again.

I’m going back to the oly gym Friday come what ever. I had that 30kg snatch in sight for this month, but we’ll see. I can’t even walk up a slight hill without gasping.

is it maybe something to do with the weather? sometimes summer really gets to me. the heat. dryness etc. sorry to hear that you haven’t been feeling well. health surely is something we take for granted when things are ticking along fine. so horrible for things to not feel right.

I got an inhalor and taking antihistimines just in case, it not really helping though. My sinuses, had some blood coming out, think it was from the diving too, which means sinus squeeze, its just everything coming together I think, freaking TOM never helps anything either. Anyway I’m asking one of my diving club members who works in the emergency medical field in the club who has been diving for 25+ years, for a doctor that dives (or at least understands about diving).

hope all is well!

Thanks MiM. So not only my body but we had system crash at work too, had some late nights.

Yesterday did some shoulder work which seems to be fine, maybe that extra though unexpected rest helped it. I had to take 5 minutes rests here and there…

-YWTL’s
-Wrist exercises
-Skater squats
-Single leg chair squats
-Snatching on empty bar (fuck, I’m back to banging my knees again & if you asked me how to clean I would just give you a blank stare, however the hang snatch is apparently downloaded into my memory bank)

Went to pool, brought my fins for soem flutter kicks, only did a few laps, then did some tank towing finning (sans tank) which seems to be great for the buns. I would love to get one of those mp3 players you can swim with.

Going to oly gym tomorrow, even if it means I have to bring an oxygen tank with me. Still a little blood in sinuses but I’ve been reading up, sinus cavity issues are better than any ear canal issues. Have a name for a doctor now though.

shit - hope the sinus crap clears up. I feel you for the diving.

speaking of I was under the impression of viewing some pics? PM me if I caught I case of the “fail reading”.

keeping my fingers crossed for you that you get some good news from the doc. i have intermittent difficulty with forgetting how the hell i’m supposed to clear my knees, too. for me it usually seems to turn on keeping my hips down through the pull and frogging my knees out more to the sides so the bar clears them.

i’m going to experiment with some kicking type micro band movements, i think…
