Shine on You Crazy Diamond

om nom nom nom nom i have been SCARFING back the fish and chips since arriving in NZ. there are no less than 4 fish and chip shops within a 20 minutes walk of me. how totally evil…

do they grill fish?? kumara chips??

sorry kumara = sweet potato

Grill? Ha ha ha! No - but some chippies do other “delicacies” such as mushy peas (ugh), deep fried sausage (double-ugh) and in certain areas, deep fried Mars Bars. I’ve never tried one of those - they’re more of a Scottish delicacy. Having said that, I saw all manner of deep fried horrors at Wildwood, New Jersey, including deep fried butter. I shit you not.

I’ll stick to fish and chips, thanks, with a fuck of a lot of salt and vinegar.

deep fried mars bars are great! they are deep fried in doughnut batter then rolled in cinnamon sugar and the chocolate / caramel inside is all gooey and delicious. still… i can’t handle much more than a snack sized one. deep fried butter??? holy crap.

Patches, aren’t mommies great! (well most of them, except for the psycho ones)

Maschy & Lexy, ok I get it on the power version.

I guess I should stop calling her my “new” friend since she’s not really new anymore. Ah but I was looking forward to training with her all week, and what happens, too many others joined her too. One of the big shot guys in the region (who does not belong to the club), and 2 other guys. So the platforms were too busy. It was a case of too many dicks on the dance floor for me. I wanted to train just with her. Anyway I’m probably just being picky. It was just that 2 of the guys, well I don’t know they disturbed my lifting mojo. One guy that used to co-own the other weightlifting club I started in, I just don’t know if he actually enjoys oly lifting. He pushes himself and is very driven, but I just don’t see that ‘joy’ from him. Maybe its just me.

Maybe this sounds sexist, but a lot of the guy lifters I don’t find really graceful, not like most of the female ones. There are a few guys I do find graceful though (& I’m not just referring to the professional ones). Ah but nevermind me I seem to have typing diarrhea this morning.

Damn Cal & Alexus, I said I need to dial in my diet a bit and you have to go and make me hungry with all your fish & chip talk! Love fried sweet potato, mmmmmmm! I actually made a sweet potatoe pie this weekend. I know, I know, my reining in the diet starts today. I had a lovely hedonistic weekend.

I had a lovely hedonistic weekend.[/quote]

Yipee for hedonistic weekends. My mom seems to equate food with luvs, if you leave food on your plate, she’s actually offended. It makes for all mom time to be hedonistic time!

I agree with women lifters being more graceful. I love touching and noming men; but women are prettier to look at.

Glad you approve Patches, I did you proud.

Oops been blabbing so much on here forgetting to actually log my sessions.

Friday–(with too many dicks on the dance floor)
–Jerks were just ok
–Powersnatches were pretty good, got some good height, still could be a tad faster. We went up to 29kg
–Abz
Didn’t break a sweat :frowning:

Sun
–Again jerks were ok, but nothing to write home about. I was put back on the board to stop from lunging too far.
–Powercleans (first time doing the power version), 35kg
–Wanted to do some powersnatches but was told not too. Its either or :frowning:
–Abs
Again didn’t get sweaty.

Mon yesterday–(oh my freaking arms!!!)
–Jerking, hmm seems my stance has been just a tiny bit too wide, so I narrowed it, and BAM! those jerks were going up a whole lot better. We are resetting my triple sets to 36kg.

He tested them, that 40kg went up nice and easy (unlike 2 Fridays ago), and I actually got 45kg up (last time I tried nothing would budge), but it wasn’t pretty, my right arm/shoulder kinda buckled a bit, but he counted it. We are going to try to widen my grip a bit on the jerks, see if that helps.

–Powersnatches
Oh boy they suffered after testing my jerk. Not to mention he decided to put 30kg on it. Was really frustrated. I know I was tired but I still want my technique perfect even when I am tired. Coach kept niggling me on little things, my focus was all over the place trying to correct myself.

–Presses
HAHA, my arms couldn’t move. I had to try pressing a couple of times before they listened to me. 27kg felt like 45kg, only on the 3rd set did they feel ok, then the last 2 had to really really grind them out. I’m surprised I can type today.

wow, you jerked 45kg?? coach tried to make me today but no could do!!

i hear you on most guys not being very graceful with it… i guess that is why i find guys who are graceful with it to be totally fascinating. there was one dude i used to train with sometimes and i could hardly take my eyes off him nom nom nom. and i think part of my brain was very attracted to the way he smelled… anyhoo…

i think guys tend to be really very focused on the amount of weight lifted. girls tend to worry about their form a bit more. that results in guys being a bit gung ho and shoving the weight around whereas girls are more likely to develop gracefulness with lighter weights. generalizations that aren’t true of everyone, of course, but seems to be true of my experience anyway.

i’m pretty fascinated with how ideal form for everyone looks different because of their levers and stuff. it is really wonderful to see people at the point where their technique is developed enough such that you get a sense of their own individual style. i know some people think that women are nicer aesthetically… one famous coach said that there wasn’t anything more aesthetically pleasing than seeing a woman with a barbell… but i actually find guys (the odd rare one) to be most beautiful…

I douldn’t do 45kg the first time my coach told me too.

Ok Lexy, glad we are on the same page on guys being graceful with the lifts. There are quite a few studies about body chemistry between people and smell is a weird but powerful thing, also one thing we can’t control. I’m not talking about anyone smelling bad, but certain people will be more attracted to each other based on smell. Anyway I’m digressing here.

My arms were fucked yesterday. It took great mental fortitude for me to pick that bar up. We stuck with 30kg for jerks thankfully. My problem is not the actual jerking but lowering it to put it on the rack. Apparently there is a certain techinque even for that, and its the lowering part that frying my shoulder.

Powercleans- my arms were so fried didn’t know what I was doing with them. I’m not sure how the cleans were. Tried to focus but was so glad when that session was over.

Presses, again thankfully we only did 3 reps of 5 sets instead of the usual 5 reps per set. Stuck to 27kg again, but hopefully later this week we’ll will raise that to 30kg, since we are dropping the reps.

Did abs, nearly hitting my head (again).

I can’t afford it, but seriously need a massage if I’m to do any upper body work the rest of this week. Just going to the pool tonight, gonna take it nice & easy, just to loosen things up.

I always say I will get a massage and never do. I’ve never had one…maybe before I’m 35, lol

MiMsy…Its all down hill from 35 (yes I’m older hehe), you’d better get one in while you still can.

I’m motherfucking skipping my session tonight!!! Gonna meet an old co-worker to catch up. I did a few yoga moves last night for the shoulder. Hurt like a bitch yesterday, even to put my coat on. I went to the pool couldn’t really even do much there, knee was at me & my shoulder just to mess around the pool. Went in the sauna 3 times though. I woke up this morning at thankfully the shoulder feels better, knee still meh. But I just think a little extra rest wouldn’t hurt. I’m busy this Sunday too, so no training then. So only 3 sessions this week. Tomorrow better be good!

I couldn’t live without the deep tissue massage I get monthly. It’s worth the money to me because I can actually move and function afterwards. Not all massages are the same. I’ve found word of mouth is the best way to find a good one.

point taken!!

lol

Glad your parts are feeling better

Pixie, yes I got one. This place does a cross between Thai and oil, it was a very deep massage.

Mim, yeah my parts are getting there.

Did a light session yesterday, although it felt heavy. Snatches were pretty bad, I mean I got the bar up and everything but squatting into the position was slow & all over the place. None of them felt right.

The only good thing was my transition from cleans to jerks are now spot on! Coach said my cleans were good, but just couldn’t feel them. You know that feeling where you feel at one with the bar. Jerks were bam bam again.

Squatting hurt still, but my knees are no worse for it this morning so…

Presses, kept those light, again hurts to lower the bar, just like in jerks. Gotta sort that shit out before it stops me completely

love that feeling when it all comes together.

Sun, wasn’t around to go to my usual gym. But went to a hotel gym, found an old rusty men’s 7kg bar. Just did some snatch breakdowns to see how my knee would take it. Did arnold presses & db rows to test the shoulder. All seemed to be ok, a few little niggles.

Yesterday, its been about 2 weeks since I’ve done full snatches, my oomph in the right place wasn’t there but getting back. We are adding some singles to my program, he’s working around percentages to get my weight up before he gives me his usual weightlifting program. The 31kg single was probably the best.

C & J, we were supposed to keep it at 40kg, but somehow 43kg wound up on the bar instead. Ugh, when I’m tired the jerks are anything but snappy, they kind of softly go up, like going through porridge.

Back squatting, we worked up to a 65kg single. Stupid knee & shoulder decided to act up for that, shoulder didn’t like the bar resting on it. I think my left knee started to bug me because I forgot to concentrate on my right glute.

Shit workout yesterday, I was late and too rushed. It was one of those ‘just get the damn workout done’. Coach was being all coachy saying what I was doing wrong. I can’t deal with loads of little instructions, sounded like he was speaking in Klingon.

Think it might be a case of PMS, I rarely get PMS, just really bad cramps 1-2 days of TOM. I was actually quite emotional from that session. Half way through the snatches I had to hold back tears, heart was racing a mile a minute. Managed to channel my frustrations into maybe 3 good snatches. Don’t know what the fuck I was doing with the jerks. Held it in till I finished and got back in the changing rooms & started balling my eyes out. FFS!

Will post my new programme later.

Sorry about the shit workout, Tech :frowning:

It happens. I’ve certainly had my shit days - regroup and move on.

Its funny because just the other day someone commented to me that “you’re too emotional about your training” and this gave me pause. On the on hand, I know its true. My training has been causing strange bouts of mental anguish that I think detract from the overall point of training which is to have fun. Plus being overly emotional about anything is never good.

But on the other hand, I wondered how am I supposed to feel about my training? Should I be detached? Should I look it at it as something I accomplish like a robot? I train 10 hours a week, its a significant part of my identity, and I’m being told NOT TO BE EMOTIONAL about it?

Anyways, I still haven’t digested my thoughts on this, but I just wanted to share. lol!

Also, I’m totally with you. I’m not the kind of athlete that bodes well with a lot of instruction. My coach used to yell cues from the sidelines and this did nothing for me. I needed him to physically show me, either through example or by touch where things should be hitting, how the bar and my body should move, etc. Also I do well with metaphoric cues, lol! Its a bit autistic of me, really.

Hang in there, girlie! Better training days ahead.

yup sounds like a bad case of PMS to me.

good news is, it’ll blow over in a couple of days.

Here’s my new programme from coach. He has a different one I’ll be following as soon as I bring the weights up (i.e. dial in my technique)

70% 3 reps 3 sets
75% 3 reps
80% 2 reps
85% 1 rep
90% 1 rep
80% 2 reps x 3 sets

Snatch
based on 35kg

C & J (1 clean then the rest are jerks)
based on 45kg

Back Squat
based on 65kg
