Shine on You Crazy Diamond

Lexy, yeah I was completely taken surprise by that 40kg. But I get what you are saying, have faith that I can do the 40kg, but be prepared for some frustration. Coach is going to do some videos in a few weeks. I really need a new phone that has the capability, trying to get work to get me a new one.

Nlmain, yeah lionness, grrr! I was doing great until that night. But the stupid thing was dragged on for over a month. But its done and dusted. Can’t wait for the marine recording course next year. We are going to warm waters for xmas for some leisure diving, yay!

Very nice. I’m a big fan of pink lately.

YAY! congrats on the cert and the 4ok snatch! woot woot!

I completely agree with Lex, you just got keep hammering it and eventually it comes. Just don’t be afraid of it. You know? That was my big problem. Its like I always forgot “you can drop the bar” - you always have an out if you get stuck, throw it behind you or in front of you, aye?

Anyways, catching a snatch is the hardest part if you ask me! Once you get that, and given you’re not all shell shocked in the catch position going “omgomgomg! I just caught this!” like I always do - just bring your focus back in and stand the fuck up! haha! Sounds so simple…

Great work girl! keep at it. I think you’ll get that 40k by xmas for sure! Santa will deliver

Well you might like this too. My mother knits, she made this. Thinking of giving it to my new friend who likes this stuff for lifting.

Here’s another view. Don’t be put off the non-polish toe nails there.

One more, my camera phone is crap.

Thanks Maschy. I’ll be hammering it today, its TOM but want to work on my technique. I’m going to see if I can skip front squats though, my back, quads & ovaries are killing me.

Woke up at 3am on Sat morning, my shoulder & shit killing me around my ribs. Was able to train the Sun morning day though. Snatching and jerk work were not too bad, snatching was very smooth but then again that 25kg is getting light.

The only killer on my shoulder was the 40kg front squat, it hurt to hold it up. But I did the reps so fast cuz I wanted to get the damn bar off me. So what does my coach decided to do… but to test my front squat. 50kg was fine, but 55kg no go from the hole. We tried 55kg at parallel which was fine, so must be my glutes, need to start working on them again.

But the focus this week after lifting is soft tissue work, my shoulder thing kinda scared me straight.

I ain’t doing no front squats today either, goddammit!, no matter what that coach says. Not making the cramps worse.

hmm. one of the guys told me that my coach tries to do a heavy, middle, and light week with his lifters. not sure that will fit into my cycle… have no idea what if any ideas he has about fitting such stuff in with peoples cycles since i’m not sure he has coached females before…

i used to need to take it light on front squats around my monthly. felt like my lumbar spine ached and my hips ached, too. i think cal suggested that bloating / water retention might actually be putting pressure on the joints. really did feel like that - like it simply wasn’t safe to push it.

i haven’t been finding that lately. not sure whether it is because i haven’t been working front squats for a while now (doesn’t seem such a problem on back squats) or whether it is that i’m not as bloated or whether it is that i’m getting more flexible or something. hopefully your coach will adap if it turns out you need him to :frowning:

Oh great.

I’m jelly of your legwarmers

I’m jelly of your oly shoes

and aparently I’m jelly of your snatch too.

Hallowed you are making me blush. My snatch isn’t as big as Lexi’s though :-p

Lexy, yeah I don’t care about bloating and all that, its just that thigh DOMs, makes the cramps worse. A few times its been so bad that I would wake up at 3am even with painkillers, and I like my sleep, I need more. Coach let me off them last night. My knees were still a bit DOMy anyway from Sunday’s session.

Oh one thing I learned last night from being tired, uncoordinated & basically crabby, was that my coach had to pay a little more attention to what I was doing cuz I just couldn’t get the bar up yesterday for the first few sets. Seems that my set up at the bar was slightly off, something like just half an inch closer & further down to the bar. After that, didn’t have to worry about my knees and the bar finally got up for the last 2 sets, even after my hissy fit.

I’m starting to appreciate jerking a bit more, its not just doing a press up, LOL. We went onto full jerks, my cue for landing it is to think “shoulder lock out”, oh and that I’m not actually doing the splits.

Ah so what did I do when I got home, took a hot bath WITH a glass of wine & weight watchers ginger/lemon biscuits.

Take care of that shoulder!!!

sounds perfect - those socks are cute

i’m just starting to learn to appreciate jerks now, too. i held off on them for the longest time because i couldn’t split (toes don’t bend back enough for me to balance properly on the ball of my back foot) but my coach seems determined that i need to suck it up and develop a killer power-jerk.

i reckon your coach will adapt once he really comes to appreciate that you do work hard and that your need to deload around your cycle isn’t at all about your being slack.

debras snatch is one hell of a lot bigger than the both of us… she’ll be doing more than bodyweight soon! so jelly…

loving your shoes!!!

Now I wants an Oly coach!

When will it be MINES TURN?

Tell me about it! I’m finishing up with my TOM and all my training has suffered as a result. Meh! Good time to work on technique, that’s for sure.

Anyways, nice work on the Oly! I normally love jerking. I think I just love anything where I have to throw the bar above me…

And its true! Oly is freaking hard as is - but when you’re tired, its just maddening!

ps. that bunny is so freaking cute I almost puked! I want it in my pocket!

It’s pretty well known that women get more uncoordinated (or less coordinated, eh) when they’re premenstrual. I’m pretty clumsy anyway but I turn into a total spaz the week before Flo arrives (which is not cool because my school kids laugh at me if I drop the ball in PE. Bah).

Yes MiMsy!

nlmain, yeah it was great but didn’t last long, I’ve been eating such crap this week.

Lexy, yeah my coach did say that I’m a good little trainer. He says I won’t even know myself in 6 months, if I keep going the way I am. Just hope I can do this and diving next year. Starting Jan, my Sundays will be taken up a bit again with diving/snorkeling.

Hallowed, I can’t tell you the difference the coaching that I’ve had in this new place. One its near me so going 4 times a week is breeze and its nice/cozy, and I have a inspirational training partner about once a week. Just getting the small tips here & there have been a huge help.

Maschy, yeah TOM is blah. My friend was saying she had to do a comp on hers, says it was one of the worst comps she’s ever done. Just the fact that it goes on all freaking day sounds tiring, plus the added stress. I’m still on the fence about if I’d ever do comps. Never say never, but I’d hate to not have Oly be fun for me.

Cal, yep you and me both, clumzy, especially around this time. I’ve managed to hit my head 4 times in the last 3 weeks. And last night dropped an entire bottle of yummy expensive evoo :frowning:
Ah stupid school kids, they’ll feel the pain of aunt flo soon if some of them have not already.

Did a short power yoga sequence on Wed, meh, think I’ll change it up, it was too easy this time around. Didn’t get ‘totally zen’ from it.

Yesterday’s workout:
Snatching was very nice & smooth, just need a bit more speed. I’ll say it again, that tip I got from my coach of setting myself up in the snatch is paying off. Such a tiny thing but big difference. I don’t even know how to explain it though, would need to borrow Lexy’s brain for a moment.

Did my first triple set with 30kg, coach decided to bring it down to 28kg for the moment though, just to build up a slowly. The 30 actually felt light enough at first but then the 28 felt heavier after the 30, so of course he’s right to slow it down a bit.

Jerking, took about 2 sets to remember what I’m supposed to do.

Cleans, I keep wanting to snatch these, silly silly me.

Front squat, 40kg starting to feel light but my hip flexors were really cranky, they’ve not been this cranky for awhile. Ah and still need to work on glute activation, not feeling that nice bum burn.

Did some soft tissue stuff with tennis balls.

Just a quickie, yesterdays session went ok. My nut-bag of a coach decided to test my jerking up to 45kg, yeah not gonna happen until my jerking off technique is better, my shoulder was like ‘oh know you don’t bitch’. Cleaning 45kg was fine, I’ve done up to 48kg on the clean a good few months ago (although I’m a bit rusty, don’t know what to do with my elbows).

Snatching went ok, I’m still confused if its ok to bump the bar a few times or not???

Woke up couldn’t move my arms properly. Might have to take a walk & do some yoga to loosen up for tomorrow’s morning session, I’ll be on my own.

48kg clean is pretty damned strong. Back in the distant pass I have push-pressed 47.5kg but jerk? Hell no. Good luck with that.
