Shine on You Crazy Diamond

sometimes people are placed on our path for s good reason. Training close to him is a big bonus in itself. Training with strong people is also motivating.

why not ask for a trial day and see how it flows for you?

I agree nlmain, its nice little coincidence she asked me about it while I’m at a crossroads at where to train. And Lexy, she’s a kiwi too.

So diving back this weekend, but the seas are still a bit iffy so we are going fresh water diving. I went to the bottom of the pool (about 3 metres) and sinuses seem fine, no pain going up or down. I’ve done fresh water diving once, but I missed the little fishies (although there were minnows but not many). Not to mention fresh water is colder than the sea, but I do want my 2 star certification this year. Although if I’m not going to get it might consider getting more Padi courses over xmas as I am going away to somewhere sunny for the holidays. Gotta go find and dust off my Padi logbook where ever that is.

Yesterday just did some yoga, which I nearly fell asleep from afterwards, so no prehab stuff for me. Then dragged my ass to the pool, shoulders still stiff from Mondays snatching, found it hard to get in good strokes. Need massage :frowning: Used my fins though and found a good way of finning that uses my underdeveloped hamstrings.

Ok so I splurged on some undies to wear under my semi dry suit to put on for the 2nd dive. 66 big ones oof! And fucking pink again, ugh! No choices on colour.

Well, is shows off your figure.

Neck is probably your levator. I am always tweaking mine and it hurts like a bitch for a day or two then disappears. I’m not a fan of the headaches it leads to though. Levators are tricky.

Ha, thanks, yeah I like the way it makes me look above the knee, it squishes out all the fat on my already fat knees. Didn’t realise how uh, chubby they were until I tried to find a decent knee wrap.

I had to look up levator, but yeah that looks like a place that gets tense/sore now and then, seems to pull on my skull & back.

I had good intentions yesterday, should’ve just gone to gym straight after work. I tried to do some yoga even and was too tired for that too. I mean I did some for 30 minutes, trying to find some comfortable positions to ease the back & all. Busy weekend, music tonight, going to watch comp tomorrow and then 2 dives Sunday, oof.

yes, it shows off your figure really well

i hate it how gym gear mostly comes in pink for women. or rainbow or purple (universal symbol of homosexuality / lesbianism). or blue.

it does sound like an awesome opportunity to train with that chick. i’ve been looking into the gym that i’m moving to… and there are a couple women there around my age / weight who are lifting similar numbers to me. i’m sure it will be motivating for me to train with them. they said they were ‘currently trying to locate’ a women’s bar. which suggests to me that they will manage to locate one if they see i’m serious about my training  have found out a bit more about the place / the people, too, from a forum they have… i’m really looking forward to it. seems like a really great bunch of people and i’ll get a lot of assistance if i’m prepared to work hard. and personalized program, too. so… going to enjoy my training freedom right now

Haha, well with the amount of time you spend in the gym, I’m sure you’ll have ample of opportunities to remind them about the women’s bar.

Hey, I’m finding sometimes when I have to sort of frog my knees out on the first pull, my damn feet rotate out, then I’m wasting that split second when I either have to adjust or I forget to adjust, then my knee goes all wobbly. Sigh, I’m thinking eventually some oly shoes are in order, but can’t afford any right now.

It really does show off your curves nicely.

I’m finding the same thing with hiking gear. Why would I want to be in the woods in head to toe pink?

Hey Patch, yeah I’m sure pink would only invite trouble in the woods.

I’m actually too tired and brain dead to write anything, I’ve been staring at the screen for awhile now. Will get on to the other logs over the next couple of days. Stupid work! I’m gonna go stare at nothing now.

So the comp was pretty interesting and pretty damn long too. Made sure to watch the snatching but left after the 2nd group were doing their cleans/jerks. Made me feel somewhat better about my technique, for some reason I was imagining near perfection from everyone, the only slight twinge I felt was when this young thing, who is way skinnier than me was lifting just slighty more than me AND she just started. Hurt my little ego a tiny bit. Everyone there looked so young though.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the comp. Yep, apparently technique does vary since people are encouraged to compete early. My form also breaks down considerably for a max (e.g., the 40kg snatch I got for comp was one of the ugliest lifts I’ve ever done). I’m sure this is true for other people, too.

I find it hard not to feel a bit demoralized when people who have been training for less time lift better than / more than me, too. Still, I guess each person has their own individual journey / progression. I keep telling myself that I’m sure I wouldn’t be so obsessed with being good at this if progress came easier for me. I think age plays a huge role - especially with regards to flexibility. There is a guy at my gym who used to be a gymnast and he seems to need very minimal warm-up to exhibit amazing flexibility. I need to roll things out for a good hour before I have any hope in hell of approximating any of the required positions :frowning: I’m sure that impacts on the strength I have (since I’ve spent an hour telling everything to switch off).

So my vastus medialis is pretty weak compared to my vastus lateralis, last time my PT did a once over me, that wasn’t the case, he says I’m most likely using my outer thigh a lot more than before with oly lifting. Also my stance has gotten wider little by little without my even noticing it (tsk tsk). Basically he gave me an exercise for the inner quad and said I need to loosen my tight quads as that is what was pulling on my knee. No real damage just one more thing to watch out for. Not to mention my super tight hips. Still need a new foam roller.

Weird news, I’m definitely losing some inches (or centimetres), clothes feel looser but my weight seems to be the same, but I’m not sure if I trust it yet.

Did some core work, and tabata on bike then rushed down to do some laps in pool with club.

Weather doesn’t look great again this weekend, so probably not going out. We went fresh water diving in some boring cold place. Was trying to work on my navigation, but the compass I borrowed, uh well its North didn’t match up to my instructors North, and the one on my gauges the bezel fell off. Oh yeah and my stupid diving computer, I couldn’t get the timing of damn safety stop to start on it, my fingers were too cold and clumsy to push the button on correct.

Anyway I’m just being moany because TOM is coming, and I’ve had much too much stimulation over the last few days with going out & having to go to an all day meeting at work.

Yeah I know what you mean, and she was considerably younger than me, probably with less body part issues. Anyhoo, next month going to that new gym, uh not sure on the times of coaching, but my new friend said she’d be there to help me along. She’s getting her oly instructor certification now, but she doesn’t have it yet.

new gym sounds great

i get some massive knots on the inner side of my quad / adductor down by my knee. hope you can get a foam roller soon and you find your balls!!

sounds like a fun dive

I’ve actually reserached a new school to work with this fall. I want to get my dry suit cert.

Lex, yeah I hope the new gym will bring me back to focus. I’m actually getting sick of training at home, not that I’ve been a good girl since this knee started on me.

nlmain, I’ve thought about a dry suit A LOT, but not sure if I can spare the expense just yet. But I’m sure you’ll come up with some rather creative thermal wear, can’t wait to hear what you come up with to wear underneath. Blah I missed a good dive on Sat as I have not been 100%, damn period & stomach!

Last week, I tried to do some drop snatches to work on my lockout (as Koing suggested) but I could only manage 5 reps, then felt dizzy.

Just did some yoga over the weekend & took it easy. Even did some meditation, found some great music to get for it. Think my brain just needs to let go sometimes. They say TOM is usually a good time for that, so might try it next month. I got these pain killers from the docter that won’t upset my stomach, but er the ‘application’ is rather different than popping a pill, I nearly fainted from it. Anyway I’m going to try some light snatch breakdowns this evening, see how I feel. Think I still need to wrap the knee.

Did some snatching yesterday, not alot, watched my fav vid, trying to take mental notes so I can carry the focus with me at the new gym. Stuck with light weight & low reps, knee still niggly. I can’t wrap them properly either, seems I have little knee bones according to physical therapist, and lots of fat around the area (he didn’t mention that part).

One problem I’m having is catching the bar at the end, I get a bounce on my wrist, even though I’m trying to focus on locking the damn thing out. Wrist aint gonna like that when I can go heavier.

So next Wed brand new gym with brand new friend, she’s meeting me after work to hold my hand. Then I’m taking Fri next off for a number of reasons, so I’ll get to train with her & her coach (they train during my working hours pooey!!).

Got a quickie cheapie massage, I don’t know, my right quad feels a hell of a lot looser than my left, yet its my right knee buggin!!

I’m really liking the looser fitting in my clothes and liking it because I’m only making minor changes to my diet, but the right self regulating ones. Was taking awhile to find the right ones, need to up the protein though.

Right knee could be sore because you’re compensating for the tight left leg, or it could be another issue. I know my legs are very different. My right leg is quite dysfunctional in the way it moves and that ankle is prone to sprains, but I get the sciatca-type pain on the left if I run. The body is smart and will always find a way to do the movement you want, though often it means recruiting muscles it shouldn’t to compensate for its shortcomings.

Nice work on the diet changes and loose clothing - always gratifying!

Cal I don’t know what my knee or leg is trying to tell me any more. I know what you are saying about the compensation. For awhile I thought my left leg was the problems, but turns out just it was just tired/tight from doing all the work, it was my right leg that was weaker/unstable.

Clothes are looser but I don’t ‘look’ thinner, but I’m at the same weight. Oh well I’m happy to have the clothes fitting me a bit better. Still need to lose a bit more to feel less sluggish.

So sad, I just heard from a friend who found her neighbours in their back garden, the wife had TRIED to hang herself & the husband had just found her. She some how had managed to smash her skull in too. She is now paralysed and they have 2 young kids. She is a couple of years older than me. Ugh, what a waste and tragedy.

I can’t stop thinking about it, how one act could affect so many people. I know its possible to think you are so insignificant sometimes in this life but you are not. It makes it even worse because there are people out there who have no one in their lives. AH!!! Anyway my friend just happened to call me while I was posting.

Oh god that’s awful. How the hell did she fracture her skull - did she fall? She must have been really depressed. Being paralysed won’t help either.

Good that clothes are looser. Perhaps this just means you have a bit less fat and a bit more lean mass.
