Yes, that is a big part of the problem. The cues are so subtle, that they go over our heads.
As a man, you don’t want to be too aggressive with reading cues too. Some girls are flirty with almost everyone. Some are not. You need a baseline of the girl to understand what is flirty and what is not, unless it is obvious.

So glad I am married now and don’t have to deal with that crap.
Probably doesn’t help that I fall on the neurodiverse spectrum (Autism) but didn’t know it at the time and have a seriously hard time reading body language and cues.

yep… I took a emotion recognition competency test and scored in the 20th percentile…
I’ve been told I am on the spectrum by others. Never had a diagnosis. I do have a diagnosis for ADHD, and my brother is low functioning autistic. The odds are decent that I could be on the spectrum.
I keep that in mind (sometimes) in social interactions.

The great thing about my school is that a not insignificant percentage of the students there are probably somewhere on the spectrum
In engineering classes, I wouldn’t be surprised if the percent was fairly high compared to general population.

Yep. Some girls are like that, instead of going to talk to a guy they will “do their thing” which is like stroking their hair being lonely at the bar or whatever (actual conversation with a girl friend). They want the benefits of courting without the possible drawback of getting rejected.
Yes, I’m very, very oblivious. A girl was complimenting me recentely and I didn’t even noticed
So now I’m not playing games anymore because I’m terrible at this

My major is probably comprises of significantly more neurotypical students, but since a significant part of my social interaction comes from needing help in maths or computer issues, I disproportionately interact with “the other side”

One of the popular cues is looking away really quickly when you look at them (darting eyes). Now this one strategically is terrible because it would be very easy to come to the conclusion that I am creeping this chick out.
With your looks, I would just assume most are flirting.
The computer science guys (I say guys because women are a low percent in that major), are on a different level on average.

I am in a similar boat. My wife (who has worked with many with autism), my cousin and one of my friend’s (both who have kids on the spectrum, one low functioning and one that is progressing well and on track for his age) have all said I am on the spectrum.
At this point I don’t think a diagnosis would do me any good. I hold a job, family, and everything I need to, but it’s good to understand where my limits are in some areas.
Edit: The “eccentric” professor is a real thing in STEM fields and it’s probably just that a lot of the really genius professors are somewhere on the ASD chart.

yep! The ones at my school are VERY nice though. I needed help installing software and one of them spent an hour answering my dumb questions
Things heating up here lol. Pretty sure he liked you. You may have missed that though. If a guy is overly nice, or goes out of his way to help you, he probably thinks you are attractive (maybe not likes you, but is attracted).

I’ve never actually met him… It was on the class of 2023+ discord
The maths/CS guys at my school that I’ve interacted with are all very nice
I honestly suspect that my “boss” ( a quite highly regarded professor) is on the spectrum. He’s very awkward and when he gives interviews (once in a blue moon), he usually has a colleague with him to “translate”. I listened to one and it honestly felt like he was a child at a dr’s office. The other professor had to coax answers out of him and supplement info
Also, tends to dominate seminars/meetings with questions.

If you’re not familiar with the show Blue Mountain State, there’s a really funny episode centered around this exact thing.

I had a professor in college who was the world’s expert on dust out situations for helicopters (basically the aerodynamics of helicopter blades and sand particles when you land in deserts). I went to his office hours and he had stacks of papers 6 feet high everywhere with just enough room to get in and sit at his desk for questions. I asked him about something we were learning and he went to a seemingly random stack and pulled out a chunk of papers on the exact topic. It was kind of nuts.

Haven’t seen that show before but I’m glad to not be the only weirdo who imagines stuff like that.
In reality my actual advances towards women in my teenage years were much more awkward than a Polaroid of my junk sent in a Hallmark card would have been.

One of the funniest shows ever. The reason why me and 4 friends started American Football

@anna_5588 I enjoyed it but it’s definitely frat-bro esque humor. Might not be your style.
@twojarslave Relatable haha. You’ve got a late teens son right? I’d recommend it next time you guys are using the TV to kill some time.
