Go look up ‘caucasian’ in wikipedia and have a little think about it. It doesn’t matter what you want to call people anyway. It doesn’t alter the facts of what happened. As I’ve said it was more complicated than race and involved religion and culture as these things always do.
Unfortunately, in this country, it IS all about race…and not “religion and culture”. Trust me, no one cares what my “culture” is if they are racist today. They don’t care if I am Christian or Buddhist. If someone has to do more than look at you to be able to know how they hate you, then it is not the same at all.

That means his point still stands.
Obviously there are huge differences between the British atrocities in Ireland and slavery/segregation in America. However his point was basically that because Celts and British look similar it’s not ‘racism’. Whatever you want to call it, it was fucked up.
No, my point was that they are the same fucking race.
And we’re saying they didn’t have the advanced technology of genetics to tell them that. Back then every country was a “race”. You had the Irish race and the French race and the German race and the best of all, the English race. Doesn’t matter they were all the same “color”, they were considered different and inferior to your own “race”.
You’re right, it was all out war…but once again, once the fighting ended, there was no 300 years of people acting exactly the same because the “hated ones” are less easy to be identified when everyone is the same color.

get it?

That is the difference bewteen CULTURAL HATRED and true RACISM.
I’m agreeing with you. My point was to the whole “they were the same race” comment. To them, it WAS racism. Racism equaled cultural hatred and vice versa. We now know differently of course. If you speak to an anthropologist they will say we are all the same race, the human race, and what we’re really talking about is ethnicity hatred. You and I are not different races, just different ethnicities. Whatever it’s called it’s wrong and should be stopped but it probably won’t since the people who think they are right and we’re wrong will raise their kids with the same thinking. It just plain sucks.

So if I summarize this to see whether I got the point, while the sentiments of the hater might be the same in both cases, the hatee, so to speak, is in a different position because he cannot change the color of his skin, he cannot assimilate and therefore skin color based discrimination has a more profound social impact?
That is only part of it. The rest involves the after math of that much hatred…thus why things like “Reefer Madness” propaganda relied heavily on flat out making blacks and hispanics out to be evil and thus corrupting pure white people…and that was in the 1930’s-50’s.

It isn’t about a need to assimilate as it is a lack of needing to if you look the same.

You know why people don’t hate Irish people now? Because they don’t know who the fuck they are.

Unless someone flat out yells out they are Irish or has a thick accent, who the fuck would know?

I’m not even all black but do you think anyone cares?

Probably not, because if anyone sees someone with darker skin, they are always “black”. Obama isn’t seen as white. He’s seen as black, because his skin is dark. Doesn’t matter that his mom was white. Same with Halle Berry. Same with you. If one of your parents is white, because your skin color is dark you are immediately black. Same with my friend’s kids. Their father was black, actually he’s from Senegal. Her kids will always be considered black. I think the only people who care are the gov’t and census takers. If you’re half white/half black you mark that you are “mixed race”. I think they even have bubbles for Hispanic Black now too. Or “more than one race”.

In Spanish we use the word “mulato” for half black/half white and Caribbean people.
It has no negative connotations, but I see the word also exists in English, but I guess it’s never used?

Actually it used to be, and always with negative connotations. Almost all words referring to African Americans were used with negative connotations. Mulatto, quadroon, octaroon…all negative words. Being black was seen as negative so it makes sense that any references would be negative in connotation.

I guess so. I really don’t remember ever seeing the word “mulatto” used in English. The origin of the word is quite racist itself though, but I know that Caribbeans and Brazilians use those terms about themselves (in Spain).

Yes, but I gave you a little history lesson and proved that was bullshit didn’t I?

The Irish were very much considered an “inferior race” against the English. They were barely considered human and were often depicted with monkey like features. Ring any bells?
Absolutely. Does this sign look familiar?

When my kids applied to college, the bubble was “bi-racial”.

Also to counting beans if I am a troll would I have signed up 6 years ago as a T-Nation member just to troll this one moment? I dont have that much time my friend. I think you did not read the whole thread young man.

Also dark ninja a joke is a joke, is it only funny when Dave Chapelle says jokes about the black race? Or when George Lopez tells them Mexican jokes? Hmmm…or how about redneck jokes arent those funny as well?

Sorry not to respond as quickly X had work then some squats to do my friend. Also Im not bashing you Im bashing the minorities who refuse to acknowledge the fact that we are part of the problem as well.

Yes, it is only funny when Chappelle does them.

If you dont believe me google “funny racist jokes” and get back to me.

I only found one that was entertaining, which was about a zebra that wondered whether it was white with black stripes or black with white stripes.

Thanx! This shows the whole “they’re all Caucasian” argument Simon was using has just been blown to bits…prejudice isn’t always against a person of a different color.

I think now it’s optional. Even gender is optional on some forms.

Not much of a fan of Dave but I do like the skit of him being a blind black KKK leader, pretty funny stuff. Gonna have to check the Zebra one out.
