The Supreme Court agreed today to take up the explosive issue of same-sex marriage, thrusting itself into a policy debate that has divided federal and state governments and courts, as well as voters in nearly 40 states.
Looks like the Supremes are going to look at the DOMA and California’s Prop 8 rulings. Its going to be interesting to see how the issues get framed and whether they punt on some of the bigger con-law questions.
Should be interesting. Public opinion is already on the side of ending the discrimination against gays. Let’s see where our justices stand.
I’ll still maintain (much to the chagrin of the social conservatives) that this is a rolling snowball towards marriage equality that isn’t slowing down.

I think, and I’m not a lawyer, but if they take this approach, the pro-gay marriage people lose.
I think, if they take the “in the eyes of the government, marriage is a contract between two people, how can we say two people of the same sex can’t enter this contract” appraoch they win.
That being said. I don’t really care either way the outcome. If gay people want to marry, I’m in no position to say no, if people want to prevent it, I’m in no postion to oppose their opposition.
But if I had to choose, I would go against the typical conservative stance on this and say, sure let 'em marry. It is like what 2-5% of the population? I really have bigger fish to fry and couldn’t care less. I don’t think any consentual sex is immoral, nor do I feel like it has any negative effects on the populous.
With that said, I do think that to hetrosexual males should be allowed to join in a similar legal union, if only for the laughs. You’d have to allow it.

I could care less what other heterosexual males are allowed or not allowed to do honestly. I just don’t even remotely see the big deal and public opinion is drastically coming around to that point of view. I didn’t always feel this way, but I do now. And as a fully and completely heterosexual guy I can tell you I will still be banging women when gays are allowed to marry. I’m going to get married soon and it doesn’t diminish my marriage in the least bit. Why would it?
Hell you can get married in Vegas in 3 minutes by Elvis. The divorce rate is sky high. And we’re really upset that a few gays want to also say I do?
Anyways, public opinion has shifted and shifted markedly. It really doesn’t matter the arguments that people come up with for or against. It might not be now, it might not be 3 years from now, but it’s coming and that is completely demonstrable just by looking at public opinion polls. The generations coming up simply don’t care. They really don’t. The people that do are dying off and even THEY are caring less by the poll. It’s a matter of numbers.

Whatever is deemed to be devolution or evolution or progression or regression is in the eyes of the beholder and good luck changing his or her own mind.
Is universal suffrage evolution or devolution?
Is civil rights evolution or devolution?
Is gender and sex equality in the workplace evolution or devolution?
Anti-slavery laws, anti-indentured labor, anti-child labor, anti-discrimination, etc…
We all are the sum of our own experiences and use those experiences to view and shape how we see the world. What we lack in society is self awareness, self reflection and critical thinking of ourselves because we hardly ever hear people go I am wrong. It is becoming funny to me all the values we want out children to have humility, self awareness, kindness, integrity, personal strength, intestinal fortitude, an ability to self-correct are all values we forget to show them as examples of how we should carry ourselves. We want our children to grow up to be functioning adults yet we are often unable to show them what a functioning adult is.

As I’ve noted before, your view of homosexuality would find more support among rural Pakistanis than among my countrymen in the United States of America.
That is evidence enough that it is low on the scale of societal evolution.
I don’t care what people do in their private lives, however, I couldn’t call this thing “marriage.” I’m all for letting them have civil unions and calling it what they want, but don’t call it marriage. If they’re in a civil union, then let them get the same benefits that hetersexual couples do. Personally, I just think the government shouldn’t be regulating marriage in any way, form, or fashion. Just my 2 cents.
