Why do Americans think my country is called England? It doesnt make sense, its like me calling the USA, “California”! California is just one of many states that make up the USA. Its the same here, England is just one state that makes up the UK, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland make up the rest of the UK. I live is Scotland (which should be independant!) which is in the UK. Thanks…

It came off as comparing
apples: USA and UK
oranges: California and Scotland.

Only a few years ago Scotland was devolved, we built a brand new parliment building in Edinburgh (cost millions though!), we have our own law system which is seperate system to English law, we have a seperate education system to England.
But we are part of the UK (United Kingdom) - not United England - go look at an atlas numptey!

I saw a program on the History channel about this. Actually i think it was about vikings, but they brought that up. They said that the english vines were growing like 200 miles further north than they can grow today.
