School Shooting in Connecticut

I believe it’s more about the increased narcissism in today’s people. It takes an over exaggerated sense of your own importance to believe that just because you are pissed off, that life hasn’t been fair to you, you have the right to kill to make things right.
That is an interesting thought.

Politics will undoubtedly enter into this debate (gun control will again resurface) but the shooting itself is not political–there is nothing “right” or “left” about shooting a school and I would counsel anyone who thinks otherwise to fuck themself–and searching for the political ideology of the gunman is tasteless and as futile as trying divine whether or not he was right-handed.

In ANY category of violent crime conservative middle-aged white guys are at or near the bottom of the list.
You would think that would be obvious seeing as how the last place they want to be is in a prison surrounded by a “different” segment of society.

I spent my whole youth basically glued to a screen playing violent video games. So did my friends that I somehow acquired without social skills. I guess that’s why we all became mass murderers instead of graduating from college and getting real jobs. Oh wait… I may be misremembering that.

And there are plenty of men who don’t fare so well. I graduated university in 2009 and I can recall many guys who would spend weekends nights at home, playing video games and eating pizza with little to no social interaction.

If you honestly believe there aren’t hordes of awkward anti-social men being pumped out by society, you’re completely oblivious to your surroundings.

I’d bet my fucking ass it’s a middle-aged white guy with extreme right-wing political views.
If I was a betting man, my immediate assumption would be this was some sort of custody thing — i.e., “if I can’t have my kid, no one can!” Basic human selfishness and evil. Still my working theory. In short, nothing to do with politics.

That said, the shooter was Ryan Lanza, age 24. From his Facebook page, that is now down, he was an Obama supporter. His photo has the look of the oh-so-typical slacker.

Your knee-jerk reaction, however, is interesting. Statistically, middle-age conservative white men are the LEAST likely person to commit, or to ever have committed, a violent crime. This goes down further if they legally own weapons.

Indeed, if you look a mass violent crime in the USA, it’s almost universally either someone who is simply crazy, someone who is, or sympathizes with Islam (e.g., Tim McVeigh), or liberals attempting to force the agenda. In fact, until Islamic groups trumped them, the most consistently violent groups in the USA have been environmental groups and wackos (e.g., Earth Liberation Front, Unibomber, etc).

The fact that the knee-jerk reaction of so many is to blame conservatives is a testament to the power of the liberal media.

Wrong guy

It was personal, not political. His mother worked in the school. He sought her out and killed her and for whatever reason took a bunch of other people, including kids, with her.

THE MEDIA IS PARTLY TO BLAME!! these mass shooters know they are gonna get alot of media attention if they do something horrific like this. I remember the guy that shot up virgina tech sent pictures of himself posing with his guns before carrying on the attack. what better way to get famous than shooting up a school? If it wernt for the media, this guy probably just kills his mom and shoots himself. I heard that japan does’t report stuff like this as nearly as the U.S and has one of the lowest murder rates in thew world.

Chicken and egg.

The shooter’s brother was arrested at the scene.

Not political at all. The guy is just plain nuts. I mean what kind of sane person would shoot innocent children.

I read he used a .223 caliber-rifle. I am assuming that is semi-automatic? And what types of guns are .223 caliber?

While I agree the middle age white guy thing was stupid, what do McVeigh and Islam have in common? He was a Michigan Militia guy and they are about as far from being Islamic as you can get. They also make up a large segment of those “wackos” you mentioned.

AR-15 is one. It is also a varmint rifle caliber.

I noticed you used the words “hordes of awkward anti-social men” and not “hordes of child killing psychopaths”.

Okay, and by the looks of the AR-15 it looks similar to a M4. These are legal to obtain with just a permit or no?

I believe he used two handguns, so this is bad information.

.223 is what is used in hunting weapons and also in the AR-15, M-16, etc. Doubt any handgun can shoot that, but it’s possible.

Yes, and I meant AR-15. It is the civilian version of the M-16

And going back to what csulli said earlier I play videogames a lot with my buddies but I also hang out with my friends and watch sporting events and so on. Just because you prefer to play videogames and stay home doesn’t make you anti-social and a lunatic.
